Essay due tomorrow midnight.
It's on Ibsen's A Doll's House.
I wrote intro this evening and then MNed was busy with other stuff.
I will have a couple of hours tomorrow during the day and 4 hours in the evening to write it.
I haven't researched properly, so will have to do that as well.
I'm going to bed now, as I think it would be better to be relatively rested tomorrow then plod on now.
Can I do it? I always leave it late and get decent marks, but I've never left it that late.
Please, come and kick me in the arse and then tell me it's possible to write something relatively coherent in just a few hours.
Why do I do this to myself?

if you've written the intro, then you take a sentence per paragraph of essay.

you can easily do this, think about essays under exam conditions!

i wrote a 10K dissertation in 2 days (only got a 2:2 but hey? what did i expect!

you can so do this so easily.

do not procrastinate, sit at your desk and don't do anything else at all for 1000 words. then 15 min break. then 1000 words etc.

good luck

oh, and you do this to yourself because like me you need yourbackagainstthewall a certain amount of pressure in order to perform!

EightiesChick · 15/04/2010 00:39

Yes, you can do it. It won't be anywhere near as good as it could be, but you know that already, don't you? But it will be definitely better by a long way to hand something in than nothing. So just do it as well as you can. Spend your 2 hours in the day on research and planning, the evening on writing.

Fruitysunshine · 15/04/2010 00:58

you can do it! I did not study a whole section a couple of years back. I started at 8pm and got to bed at 5am after reading/researching and finally producing a TMA.

You can do it! Even if you don't finish it you will have scored something.

Thank you for support.
Just dropped ds at school, dp will stay at home til lunch to take care of dd, because I've got doctor's appt at noon, so I guess I better get on with it.
It's only 1500 words, but it's about staging the play, so plenty of different scenes to watch etc.
Keep the support coming, please!

Of course you can do it. 1500 words is surprisingly little when you get going and 6 hours is plenty. I remember many a time at uni getting up at 5am to write an essay that had to be in by 10. As someone else has said, I am definitely one of those people who need the pressure of an imminent deadline to get anything done. Always do a little well in advance but leave everything to last minute (this still applies now, ama teacher on holiday and have loads of coursework marking to do and know that I will be there on sunday night burning the midnight oil . You will be fine. Good luck and lots of encouragement flying your way through our little virtual world .

rosieposey · 15/04/2010 08:17

You could if you (flow) well get this done in a couple of hours, its not actually that many word. I did a 6k essay in under 7 hours (came in 10% under ) Good luck - you can do it!

winnybella · 15/04/2010 08:22

Thanks.
I'm just really annoyed with myself, because I always leave it til last minute. I get decent marks (pass 2) but obviously they would be much better if I spent more time on my assignments.
If I had done my research, then just putting words on paper wouldn't seem so daunting, but I need to do a bit more reading and watching dvd to be sure I'm making sense.
Am on it now, but it's lovely to come on here and read encouraging posts!

Arrgh.
Did bibligraphy and added bit more to the body of the essay, but no great progress. DP took DD out for a walk, but I had to prepare lunch for her and take a shower etc.
Have to go to a doctor's appt now and when I'll get back she'll probably be awake, so no dvd watching.
Shit.

winnybella · 15/04/2010 10:47

I have to rewatch 1-2 hours of dvd, make notes, references etc then somehow put it all together so it makes sense.
Panic panic panic.

Less posting, more working. This is avoidance.

TheFallenMadonna · 15/04/2010 10:57

You are procrastrinating.
You need to just do it. Ignore everything else.

I did a TMA in three hours, after having drunk two gins and tonic, when I realised I had got the cut-off date wrong.
It wasn'y my best mark, but it wasn;t my worst either.

Seriously, close MN and just do it.

msrisotto · 15/04/2010 10:59

Hi,

If you reach a wall or something the best thing is to do a plan

Intro

Paragraph 1 - About x

Paragraph 2 - About y

Paragraph 3 - About z

Conclusion - bringing it all together

Another thing to help get some content together is spider diagrams. Write the paragraph or topic in a bubble and scribble anything and everything you can think of that is related around it. Then you just need to flesh it out.

Finally - get off the computer. Find a space where you can work and get into it!

Good luck.

TulipsInTheSunshine · 15/04/2010 11:02

stop looking for excuses and distractions. you can watch dvds on the pc while dd plays and be writing as things pop into your head.

1500 words is very doable if you just calm down and get stuck in.

bruxeur · 15/04/2010 11:04

1500 words is a short note, fgs.

JFDI.

Stat!

msrisotto · 15/04/2010 11:08

JFDI

Will do.

Did you get it done?

winnybella · 19/04/2010 01:32

Well, I had some health problems discovered at the check up for a procedure I had few weeks ago so my lovely tutor gave me an extension til Sunday. I submitted it at 23.56 on Sunday night ie couple of hours ago .
Frankly, I don't expect to get more than 2.2 if that as it wasn't very ambitious or even coherent.
In the end, I'm glad it's gone and now I can focus on the last TMA, which is on a subject that I am very interested in.
Thankfully I got decent grades so far, so low mark isn't going to do that much harm (well, unless it's 20%)
Thank you for your support.

MiaWallace · 19/04/2010 14:55

Well done winnybella.

Don't worry about the mark. It's done now and like you say you can just focus more on the next one.

winnybella · 01/05/2010 20:19

Ha ha. I got a first. Can't believe it.
Thank you all!

NiceCupOfTea · 02/05/2010 11:42

Well done Winnybella!
Now go and treat yourself to a ton of croissants!
PS: please send inspirational vibes : TMA03 is not the walk in the park I'd hoped...

Katymac · 02/05/2010 12:00

Nicecupoftea - my TMA 3 is a bit of a nightmare too

hocuspontas · 02/05/2010 12:11

TMA03 due in here as well. Have an extension until Tuesday. Sitting here waiting for divine inspiration about how I support children's learning. I know HOW I do it, I just can't compose it in 500 words.

Congratulations winnybella!

Katymac · 02/05/2010 12:54

Do you?

Create a rich environment in which they can learn
Provide child initiate & adult led activities over all the EYFS range
Provide vocabulary for the children
Listen to what they say & show it interests you
Let them show you how to do things
Enable them to be outside which helps learning

winnybella · 02/05/2010 14:05

Thanks guys. I'm really happy. And if it can be any inspiration, I got 21% more on this TMA than on my lowest score this year- so it's nice to know you can improve!

NiceCup- what is it? Just the analysis of the poem, right? Read it as many times as it's necessary so you feel you 'get' it- it's important to understand it so when you mention the literary techniques it will serve to explain how they further the meaning of the poem as opposed to just enumerating them.
Much better to choose just a few, and write about them in depth than try to 'catch' every single one that there is.

Good luck!
