Just wanted you advice and experiences on this please.

my Ds is 3.5 and tonight for the first time i bathed his new sister (3 weeks old) with him in the bath. he thought it was brilliant and loved helping me wash her feet . twas very cute.

so once bedtime all done my DH says "so how long can you do that for, before it is a bit weird to have a brother and sister share a bath?" i was a bit as i never thought of it as an issue, and im sure its not at the moment anyway.

but what are your experiences with siblings of different sexes, how long did you bath them together for??

My 7 & 8 year olds shared a bath this week, had a great laugh and made a huge mess. It was nice to see them getting one and not arguing. Nothing strange about it.

of course it isn't an issue FGS

i remember having a bath with my brother (i was 6 when he was born)

i will bath DD and DS together until DS indicates he is becoming self conscious and would like privacy (he is 3 years older than her)

fifitot · 04/04/2010 20:11

???????????????????????????? Until it becomes an issue for the kids I guess, when they develop more of an awareness of differences. I used to bath with my brother but remember becoming shy about being naked at a certain age and we just stopped bathing together after that.

Tell DH not to worry so much! There's a few years of shared baths to go yet!

I have a 4 yr old DD and a 5 year old DS, who have a bath together most nights.

I also have a 7 yr old DS, the only reason that he doesn't bathe with them is that his legs are too long for them all to fit! Although he is now getting to the age where he wants a bit more privacy, so might not want to anyway.

I think TBH they get to a certain age and get more self concious themselves, so will probably make the decision for you.

I shared a bath with my brother and sister for ages. I can remember it so must have been reasonably old but can't remember when it stopped. Pre puberty certainly.

DDs share a bath DD2 is now 18 months and they love it. I like it because its much quicker imagine having to bath one then the other...

rubyslippers · 04/04/2010 20:13

and .... doing 2 bathtimes?!

you need to get bath and bedtime over and done with as quick as possible IMO

nowwearefour · 04/04/2010 20:14

i shared a bath with my brother for a long time. cant remember exactly when we stopped but i clearly remember them so cant have been too much of a bit issue!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 04/04/2010 20:16

I bathed with my younger brother until I didn't want to anymore I guess, as I was the oldest.

I have 3 boys aged 4, 3 and 1 and within the next 2 weeks will have a newborn girl.

I intend to cram them all in the bath together as long as I can - so much easier!

Though, actually might have to do 2 sets of 2.... .... sod it!!

LadyGaggia · 04/04/2010 20:17

My DD is 8 and my DS is almost 6 and they love having baths together. Well, sometimes they fight in the bath too...

StealthPolarBear · 04/04/2010 20:21

DS is 3 and DD is 6 months and they've just started having baths togther it's so lovely
I'll stop bathing them together when it's no longer physically possible, when either/both are having showers rather than baths, or when one of them asks me to.

mad4mainecoons · 04/04/2010 20:22

ah brilliant! thank you all so much. i did think that it was pretty much a non issue until much much later but you have made me much more confident to say to my Dh - thank you!

in his defence he only has a brother and is still getting his head around having a baby girl in the house

thanks again

Totally yuck, don't do it. My 'economy' conscious mother used to put me and my brother in the bath together - I'm telling you, trying to avoid the tanks, dinosaurs and plastic soldiers has left me scarred for life! (And he used to pee in there - boys are disgusting.)

Just kidding. It's fine.

whomovedmychocolate · 04/04/2010 20:30

When they are old enough to complain, they are old enough to shower!

Trafficcone · 04/04/2010 20:41

My 11 year old dd and 9 yr old ds share a bath all the time, whereas by age 10 my eldest ds had locked the bathroom door and wouldn't let anyone see him naked. It depends on the child but it's never wrong only the adult who thinks it's a problem has the problem!!

taffetacat · 04/04/2010 20:46

DS6 and DD3.7.Love having baths together.

Sometimes I try to do them separately if they are in a mad mood, but mostly they have them together, until one of them splashes half the water out of the bath/one starts winding the other up/one starts screaming about shampoo in eyes etc etc.

Somtimes DS wants them on his own so he can have a good explore underwater with the goggles and snorkel.
