Facebook - think I have been a bit OTT

No I haven't posted any risque photos.

But I was looking at my niece's page at some family photos and in the comments section was one from DS's schoolfriend. DS and this schoolfriend are 7!

I linked to his page out of curiosity and tbh some of the comments and groups he has joined are a bit and included one saying "I want to shag your daughter WHAT - er I want a glass of water" .

So - I have reported him to FB as being underage but am now wondering if I did the right thing. His mum is listed on his FB friends so am guessing she can see what he is accessing etc. Should probably be up to her rather than me but was just so shocked by what groups he joined and tha adult theme of his posts.

However, his page, photos and videos are freely accessible to anyone with few privacy restrictions (although there were some).

A bit OTT? Should I mail his mum and say "sorry but....."?

I did do the right thing I think but am a bit wobb;y about having done it as it feels rotten.

Mail and tell his mum its open.
I think you did right thing also but if his mum is a friend and knows he has a page she really should, imo, have it made properly private anyway.

I think you were absolutely correct in reporting this child. The mother is totally irresponsible if she knows that her underage child has a FB account. The only way to get one is to lie about your age - my 10 year old grand daughter did just that. I do hope for the child's sake that the maximum number of privacy settings have been installed. Good for you - no need to apologise.
