What are soakers and longies?

I've got the hang of this washable nappy thing now and can evangelise with the best of them about their virtues but still feel like a bit of a newbie because whenever you guys mention soakers or longies I have no idea what they are!

Can you describe/explain what they are and most importantly - do I need them??? Is this a whole new area of fluffy buying potential for me?!

ooh yes - very fluffy

You can get wool soakers and longies or fleece soakers and longies. Wool requires little washing - maybe once a month, but needs lanolising. Fleece needs to be washed maybe every day or so and def if on overnight but is easy to wash and dry. Both are ace overnight - really fab.

Soakers are like pull up pants. Longies are trousers. Here are some examples

fleece

wool

There are loads of stockists - try babybots, jabulababy, snoozleywoozley or bespoke baby room.

only probl;em I had in them was when pressure was being put on them for example when ds was in a sling the sling pressinghard on his bottom would cause the wee to soak through

Other than that I love them as I found that normal wraps would either leak if too loose or tight enough to not leak would rub around the edges. Soakers are lovely and soft

Yes - they repel rather than have a waterproof layer - so if in car seat for several hours could wick through as they are squished down. same with slings but like said before, they are sooo much softer on the legs and tummy and no marking or worrying about fit.

So are soakers and longies used instead of a wrap on a two part nappy? (Sorry, am still clueless!)

Are longies just instead of tights or are they instead of a wrap too?

Sorry, I don't quite get it but feel sure I'm missing out!!

I've never quite got longies either if that makes you feel better
yes soakers are just instead of a wrap.
wool ones need to be treated with lanolin so that they don't leak

I love dd4's pumpkin pants flongies but as we only use 2 parters at night she just wears them during the day over pockets as funky trousers!

We use fleece soakers at night and swear by them, they are fantastic!!

Hi yes - instead of a wrap

MrsGeek · 28/03/2010 19:38

Thanks all, sadly as we use pocket nappies I won't be able to justify the cost to DH as we don't need wraps. Shame really, those longies look adorable!
At least now I know what they are!
