Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)

Has anyone heard of this?

I'm reading about it now and much as I'm not keen on labels, my ds (about whom I have posted many times in despair on MN) ticks all the boxes. Apart from behaving well at school.

Does anyone else have experience of this, please?

My niece has it (had it). She is 19 now.
She spent like 7 months in some expensive reform-oppositional teens Native American boot camp (the average stay is 3 months).
Niece was assessed as highly gifted from the age of 5yo but never finished high school and now lives in squats.
My DS1 seems to have a touch of it, lol.
Unfortunately my niece's problems are very complicated, she has a severely bipolar mother and I reckon that would drive anybody insane.
No firsthand experience of raising my niece, but I would love you to read the book and come back and tell us how fab it was.

You haven't meant my niece's mother, FAB, so don't take it so personally. Maybe I should have phrased it "so severe as to be inevitably very badly controlled bipolar".

Or maybe her bipolar is just incidental to how stressful niece's mother is to live with, I'm not supposed to be an expert in mental illness, am I? I just know that everyone sums up Niece-Mom's very evident craziness in the context of her severe bipolar condition.

When she's sane she's one of the most sensible and nicest people I know, too .

Winky, my ds1 ticks all the boxes for ODD too. I also hate labels, so I have not done anythign about it, apart from trying to stay consistent, provide routine and security etc.
His behaviour is a lot better when he is not so worried about things. Under stress, he is a nightmare to live with, as he opposes everything.

I thought my DS had this. I got some books from Amazon about it. I highly recommend this as I am sure once you have read them you will think "Thank God my DS/DD is not as bad as these children".

I came to the conclusion he is just a little bugger
