DS1 aged 12 has a broken leg and will be off school probably until the end of May. His school has sent home work although not a great deal. I have written him a daily schedule involving reading, school work and some xbox time.
Anyone know of stuff I can buy at Waterstones or Amazon to help him fill the hours without resorting to a screen. I'm interested in school related stuff but also anything else that gets his brain working. It needs to be something he can do on his own as I also have 2 toddlers to contend with.
Unfortunately we don't own a laptop so he can't use the internet.

Would he like listening to audio books?

My DD liked this type of thing at that age.

Jigsaws with lots of pieces?
Lego technic also popular with mine (although rather expensive).

Does he like reading? Mine were keen on the Artemis Fowl books, The Young James Bond ones by Charlie Higson, and The Alex Rider Books (sorry forgotten the author)

My DS was somewhat obsessed with painting those Games Workshop models at that age - but you might not want to encourage that, it can take over!

Thanks kurrikurri, some brill ideas there. I like the Lego idea. It would be nice for him to be using his hands in a practical way, not just with his xbox controls!
