oh how i wish i'd somehow carved out an official working space for myself in the house

lord knows where though

i do have 2 shelves and dh doesn't complain about my vast pile of unsorted notes in the kitchen, so guess i'm lucky really

i'd like to indulge in desk envy - do any of you have a working space at home? I've got one year + one term left - maybe it's not too late

Yes. It makes an excellent storage space for all my piles of half-filled notebooks and dusty box files full of scribbling. Plus, with all that leg room underneath, it houses two or three boxes of stuff waiting to go to the charity shop quite nicely.

LOL i guess it's a four-colour propelling pencil for me

my mum said that at school she always thought her work would be easy and fun if she had a four-colour pencil

i imagine myself as a dedicated student given a flat surface of my own

I've almost completed my degree writing all my assignments on my bed.

I think I need to be more organised for my PGCE so looking at storage solutions so dd can have all her toys in her bedroom and the playroom can become my study.

ooh, I lay awake at night dreaming of having a study!

But I have to make do with a small table in the corner of the living room. Have written lots of essays laying on the bed too

mixedmamameansbusiness · 01/04/2010 11:01

I do have a desk and the spare room is my study, having said that the reality is that I prefer to work in the kitchen and the desk and all surrounding space is full of lists and papers of an assorted nature.

MathsMadMummy · 01/04/2010 11:07

I had a desk at my old house - hardly ever used it, just ended up on the sofa! I have to fit it around the kids so I just end up reading while feeding DS etc. In summer last year I sat on my tiny lawn, while DH had DD, it was much nicer!

dylsmum1998 · 01/04/2010 11:58

I dream of having a desk, but have nowhere to put one

although reading about mathsmadmummy sitting in the garden I also long for a garden

Sadly i am unlikey to get either until I qualify and can afford to move somewhere bigger..............

and to qualify I must stop procrastinating and wasting time on here, but am really not finding my assignments inspiring this year

CastleDouglas · 01/04/2010 18:01

I've got a desk and two, yes TWO, pots for pencils and pens. All I need now is some motivation.

arsesandoldlace · 01/04/2010 18:08

I have a desk, but I find it actually hinders my work as when DD isn't home I sit and "study" the net instead of my books

lukeysmummy · 08/04/2010 22:56

were just in the process of making me a study by putting my 2 girls in the same room (we did ask them 1st)
so then i can have a study then i might actually knuckle down and do some studying

You sound so organised, twopeople

I'm plagued by teetering piles of papers and books and folders and post it notes etc etc. It's a mess

I've got two bookshelves from Ikea already, but they are overflowing: must have a clearout!

woodchuck · 10/04/2010 17:41

I have a big desk unit with shelves from Ikea. Its big enough for keyboard and monitor (flat screen) and printer plus a couple of piles of notes and books. For the real hardcore revision stuff I am forced to take over the dining table though!

Molesworth · 11/04/2010 11:48

Ikea bookshelf owners: which shelves do you have? I've got a couple of Billy bookcases which are now startng to fall apart. Is Billy the best or would you recommend one of the other ones (Expedit etc)

Expedit look nice but don't seem very practical for book storage

LollipopViolet · 18/04/2010 15:32

I have a desk, but it's shared with the telly and an assortment of stuff that really doesn't need to be there, but has nowhere else to go. When I want to do hardcore work I get off the imac onto the macbook and go into the dining room. I live at home and find if I'm there, I can concentrate better as my family berates me for going on Facebook

I have a very big bed

and a very crooked back!
