Ok, so tonights my first night going solo with ds2 (2.5) and ds1 (4/52). I know I've been lucky having extra hands so far but am at a loss to know how to manage 2 at bedtime - I can't imagine a crying baby is conducive to toddler sleep and conversely an attention seeking toddler to baby sleep. Help! How do other's cope with bath / bedtime? FWIW, ds2 has a pretty good routine though bath - bed takes around an hr usually after milk / book. ds1 is also pretty chilled but if not asleep needs feeding / burping / attention. I know - I am very lucky but am new to this!

if possible, get baby to sleep before starting bath and leave in basket close by, if not, stick baby in sling

get toddler to bed as close to normal routine as possible

once he is asleep deal with baby

(NB MN convention refers to the older one as ds1)

Aha, sling is a good idea Mrsbadger and suspect chances of ds2 ( at getting conventions wrong - of course ds1 is the eldest) sleeping at right time are slim. Thanks - will give it a go and if all else fails have a bottle of wine in the fridge with which I can drown out the stereo crying

Yes, my boys are 2.7 apart, and I made the mistake of trying to "include" the baby into the routine. Keep the toddlers routine the same as much as possible.

Congrats and good luck !

I am so that this is the first time you've had to go it solo.. I got help for about a week!

I agree with follow toddler's routine and deal with baby as and when.. if it's only one day baby won't know any different!
