my 3year old needs a haircut help!

We tried taking him to hairdressers but he just got himself in such a state (despite enormous supply of chocolate etc?) I decided its not worth it
So we have been shaving hes hair off with clippers when it gets too long but it upsets him so much we actually had to hold him down and every time we do it we think: NEVER AGAIN !.. but than hes hair grows and he looks like crazy creature woodland elf
and the time has come for a haircut and I don?t know what to do?
I would leave it to grow but its thick and hell be just to hot, not mentioning wild child unkept appearance

any tips?

Can you stick him in front of a DVD or Cbeebies and then get on with it whilst he's watching? There is a book about a little boy who doesn't want to get his hair cut, but for the life of me I can't remember the title. Someone else might be more helpful, I hope.

Feed him chocolate buttons throughout the experience - got mine over his fear of the hairdresser no probs

My ds finally accepted haircuts when his hair kept going in his eyes. I explained to him it was because it was too long and if he let the hairdresser cut it it wouldn't be in the way anymore. He's 2, and he understood the cause-effect fine - maybe get him as an ally in the battle against the hair rather than the enemy? Has he seen you having your hair cut and enjoying it?

If he is a 3 yo boy can you tell him he will get a Ben 10 haircut?

We tried demonstration on my hubby .. he just gets hysterical no matter what but

hes not into ben 10 but i might try to convince him its Diego haircut ( other day he didnt want to put hes shoes on 'i dont like it' so i told him they are Diegos adventure shoes and he couldnt do them up fast enough! lol)
