how to turn down birthday party invite?

My DD (6) has said she doesn't want to go to a party she was invited to. She won't say why, could just be because it's a boy.

Should I tell the mum the truth? It would be easy enough for me to just say sorry she can't come. But should I then tell DD to lie to her classmates rather than saying she didn't want to go?

I think you are overthinking it.

chill

just ring na day "sorry DD can't come but hope he has a lovely party"

he probably only invited girls because his mum made him anyway

No don;'t ring on the day - that means he can't invite anyone off the B list that he might want to.

However, I am a tough mum who would say to one of mine that if they can't tell me a good reason that they don;t want to go, it's really really rude not to go to a party someone's been kind enough to invite you to, so she had better either come up with a reason that I lelieve and agree with or she's going.

MamaG LOL at told by mum to invite girls! That's what I do for DS parties too...

Funnily though I don't encourage DD to invite boys to her parties! LOL

To OP just say she can't make it, sorry. No need to give a reason.

Agree with message from MamaG, but give more advance notice, not on the day.

My dd just had birthday party last week, with a few kids invited who couldn't make it. The moms texted me in advance, 2 of the moms just advised they couldn't make it, and wished my dd a good time. I found it perfectly acceptable.
