Party in the Park. Would you go?

I can hear them soundchecking. There will be thousands of people streaming past my house soon heading for Preston Park, Brighton, for the Party in the Park.

It's quite family friendly but is mostly teens and their music.

I can hear much of it from my garden and I always feel compelled to go down there, like I'm missing out. It's a 10 minute walk.

The problem is I'm on my own today with 4 kids (5months, 3, 5 and 6). It will be really mobbed. Would I be out of my mind to go there?

i wouldnt personally due to the age and volume of kids..... you cant keep an eye on them all at the same time at something like that. Just my opinion though.

God, I wouldn't! Especially if you can hear it from your garden, I'd be out there listening, (not that I like music but if I did) giving the children water and things to occupy them.

God! No you're right. Thanks for bringing me back to reality. I often do this sort of thing, bite off more than I can chew, and end up thinking, 'what possessed me?'

I would just be worried about them running off and not being able to find them.... these things are just too busy.

Agree.... sit in the garden, let the kids play safely and RELAX!

Oh oops I love festivals but it's such a slog with kids.

I'm looking for festivals which are designed for kids this year. Then I can relax and give up any pretense that I'll be doing anything for me. Also, people are more likely to go to bed earlier so I won't be lying in my tent with the kids at midnight thinking 'Wow! Sounds like they're all having a great time.'

Yes I really fancy Womad. Heard lamer's good too. Perhaps in a couple of years.

I had a nightmare Big Green Gathering three years ago and am still smarting from it.
Unbelievable toil in a mixture of thick squelchy mud followed by baking sunshine. Carting 3 kids around in a wheelbarrow. Dd(3) got lost for an hour.
Cooking and washing up for 5, three times a day, on a campfire. Collapsing in tent at 9pm every night and listening to other people having a really good time.

I lay in the tent, panting and breast feeding, and vowed 'never again'.

But I LOVE festies. So looking for tiny story telling festy (300 max). Ease my way back gently.

Awww! They're all streaming past my house heading for the party. Grrrrr! I will spend all day listening to the distant music and yearning to be there. It's days like this when I remember what life was like before kids.
