Dissertation-help: the representation of mothers

Hi everyone,
I'm doing a dissertation (yes, another person!) on how the concept of motherhood has changed in recent times and how mothers are represented online. Would love to ask a few questions (no more than five) either in this forum, per email, or in person over a coffee or on the phone. Could meet in London with about five/six of you, treat you to coffee and buiscuits. Is anybody up for that?

tinktong - am currently planning comparison between mass observation archive contributors and mn lol but representation issues interesting. (and yes, mn towers, i will be calling! still working on detail, not yet content

are you aware that the association for research on mothering has just folded? am gutted tbh.

happy to help, but would have to be online as not in uk currently. cat me if you need me.

thanks very much for your reply Your subject sounds very interesting. No, was not aware of the association folding. What a shame (( online help would be much appreciated. Would you prefer to do it on email? Or on mn?

I'd be happy to help too, but it strikes me that posting this request in the Student Parents topic is likely to attract a bunch of social science students ... not really the most representative bunch in the world

You might get a better response from a wider range of people if you posted in one of the more general topics, although presumably you'll need permission from MN Towers to do this.

Thanks molesworth, you are being very helpful. Will ponder if I should approach MN Towers. Although a media student, this whole posting area is new to me. Have never written anything into a forum. Feel a little reticent about it

I emailed MN Towers myself at the end of last year to ask if I could recruit research volunteers on here (I changed tack so didn't need to do it in the end). It's good to cover your back by getting permission because then you will be able to stand up to the inevitable possible accusations of being a journo looking for free material ... so you're justified in feeling a little reticent, I think But don't let this put you off because I'm sure MN is a great place to find participants!

madwomanintheattic · 03/03/2010 14:48

tinktong - cat me and i'll e-mail you i can't remember what my mn e-mail address was...

i'm not representative at all - if you want an outlier, that's me lol.

although i'm probably back in london/ south for a couple of weeks in may - not sure when your data collection finishes?

Molesworth · 03/03/2010 15:16

Don't know if I'd be a suitable participant but you're welcome to contact me on molesworthmn at googlemail dot com

tinktong · 03/03/2010 15:57

Molesworth and madwomanintheattic. You are both being great. My deadline is May 4th. But the data collection needs to be done asap, really. will email you molesworthmn. What about you, madwomenintheattic? Is there an automatic email address if you enrol on MN? As far as (re)presentation goes... how can it not be bias? Again, am really chuffed with your responses

Apologies to all of you for keeping silent. Have not done my homework properly nearly all questions that I wanted to ask you have been answered already. Need to go back to the drawing board and revise them
