Doing things you know the kids will moan about but is for the right reasons?

It is about 3/4's of a mile to walk from school to home. It is a nice sunny day, I am fed up of driving, the kids are getting lazy and it is good for us all to walk. I will take a snack as usual.

DS2, aged 4, will moan and refuse to walk.

DD, aged 6, will probably be okay.

DS1, aged 8, will complain and possibly back chat me.

This morning I nearly didn't go to the shop because of how they behaved last time we went but I decided I wouldn't be held to ransom by my kids, and I have got in to the habit of driving part the way to school if not the whole way, to stop any moaning and it is all wrong.

Just do it and don't take any nonsense. We regularly walk for 30-40 mins into town (not sure how far that is?) with dcs the exact same ages as yours.

You will have to frustrate your dcs quite often if you want them to grow into civilised adults.

When I drag take the twins for a walk we play games such as stop, go - you say go and they can either run, walk, jump or hop and then shout stop and they have to stop exactly where they are until you say go. We do funny walks, or they have to find things or we play I spy etc. I hope this helps otherwise it's bribery - whoops did I really say that

We walked. DS2 said his leg hurt but the other two didn't moan. Took twice as long to get home than it did for me to get there!

Hooray!

What MrsFreedy says does help but tbh I never have the creative energy for those games. I'd rather bribe them with a cafe or something once we get there. If I'm feeling VERY inspired we might pick up stones or pine cones.

well done
