9 year old son still on booster seat in car?

My youngest who is 9 and 10 in September and a good average size for his age still sits in a booster seat everywhere we go. Is it still the Law? Or can we go without it now. He insists upon it as it is all he has known.

There was a thread on this recently..

If he is either over 135 cm or over 12 years old he doesn't have to use a booster. However, the law is a watered down version of what was recommended on safety grounds - its reckoned to be best to use a booster up to 150cm.

So, even if he's over 135cm, if he still prefers to use the booster that's good.

The law is that they have to be over 135cm or age 11 or 12 to no longer require a booster seat.

I have seen some research that states safety experts wanted to increase the height requirement to 150cm, but that the government felt that too many adults would fall in this category and would not go for it.

But I can't remember where I saw the info.

Mine will be in boosters as long as possible.

I would question the safety of a booster seat in any case. By booster seat I presume you mean just a cushion without a back? I have a nearly 9 year old and she is in a high backed booster which provides protection for the head, neck and spine. She'll stay in that till she no longer fits in it. Once they're tall enough I don't know if a booster cushion really adds anything. Do you still have your high-backed booster? I think ours is a Maxi Cosi one.

We have the reverse problem - our 9 year olds don't want to use theirs. Here in Germany however, they have to have them until they are 150 cm and the girls are slightly short of that at the moment. When we're back in the UK though, they don't use them.
