Is your child moving up to secondary school in sept 2011?? When are you 'looking into' which school to choose?

And when do you think you need to apply? I have no clue where to start, is it too soon to be thinking about it?

Applications here (Surrey) would be made this October I think. There are normally open days in summer/early autumn terms.

You should receive a brochure or some sort of guidance - here they're sent home with year 5 children at some point. Open evenings are also in summer and early autumn, with application submitted by late Oct.

Agree with cat64 that you really need to have looked around in year 5 or otherwise it is all a bit of a rush. You can then do a shortlist and visit again at he start of Y6 before making your application (or go by yourself in Y5 and take your dc in Y6 to the ones you liked!)

As you have probably missed this year's open days you would need to contact each school you are interested in to see if it is possible to arrange a visit at some stage...
