Our DCs have a bath 3 times a week and I am of the wash properly once a week but leave it dry the other times because of not wanting to dry it out with the hair dryer drying it (DD has a bob).

DH definitely wants it soaked with water if it isn't being shampooed.

What do you all do?

Lerato I agree, posted earlier that I only use shampoo once every 3 weeks or so, and only then because everyone else seems to use it! It never looks or smells dirty even then.

Lerato · 24/02/2010 21:26

Well DD2 is now 22 mo. Think I last put shampoo in her hair when she was 7 mo old - was for some treatment she needed. She has never had conditioner in it. I used to wash DD1's hair occasionally but it was VERY traumatic for both of us, so stopped. Again her hair is fine.

Lerato, you're not the only one - ds (2.4) has never had his hair shampooed, only wet every so often. It's beautiful hair . dd's only 4mo, so no shampoo yet and no plans to do so for a long while.

DS (5) once a week properly and in between with water 'cause he loves laying back and getting it wet. DD (8) once a week after swimming. She has very long, curly hair and it's a nightmare to get dried in winter so I might do it twice a week in summer.

dc4 (7) every 3 days
dc5 (4) every 3 days
dc6 (18 months) daily

Both ds's (7 years and 11 months) have a shower every morning and get their hair wet but I have never shampooed either.

jollyma · 24/02/2010 21:35

Actually, thats a lie; I shampooed DS1 once when he went to a punk themed disco with green hair!

Forgot to say, on my son's hair I use a tea tree shampoo as a preventative measure against any head lice from nursery. Tip from my friend!

Little one I just use Earth Friendly Baby's lavender hair and body wash.

once a week, to 10 days. he has a swim int he tub prob ever 3 days.

XH used to get it fully wet every bath time. i'm not so fussed if he does or not but prefer not to as he suffers with ear infections.

HeadFairy · 24/02/2010 22:05

ds gets his hair washed once a week, sunday night. His hair usually ends up soaking after his bath anyway because he splashes so much!

merrilyverily · 24/02/2010 22:13

I'm with you Lerato. I rarely use shampoo on dd (2.3) hair. water does the trick. dd1 had terrible eczema and it was necessary to keep soakings to a minimum. lots of wash downs, not many baths. people don't seem to cross over when they sense us coming along the street!

Woollymummy · 24/02/2010 22:16

DD usually has peanut butter and paint in her hair so need to wash more than usual, I add conditioner because my mother was too tight to buy it and tried to brush my hair as if it was her own, and consequently made me hate her doing it. Dad brushing hair was the opposite, like a little kitten patting my head - aaaw! I don't want her to have bad memories of hair-brushing. Now we add loads of gloop to it she will let me brush it and the tangles almost never come back.

xandrarama · 25/02/2010 11:24

Our one year old has her hair washed with baby shampoo once a week (unless she's been massaging her dinner into her head, then as needed) - the rest of the time, we rinse her hair with water. Seems to make her head smell better than leaving her hair dry all week. She has quite a bit of hair though.

GirlWiththeMouseyHair · 25/02/2010 21:33

DS 15mo gets his hair wet every bath (most nights) becuse he swims in the bath, pours water over his head - how on earth do you all manage NOT to get their hair wet?!

Have just started using shampoo, mainly because we have to pour oil in the bath (he won't stand still to do it afterwards) for his dry skin and it makes his hair so greasey

ohnelly · 26/02/2010 19:30

Every time he has a bath (most days) but then he doesnt have much hair & it only needs a quick rub with a towel afterwards so its not much effort!

TulipsInTheRain · 26/02/2010 19:34

dd (5), ds1 (3) and ds2 (12m) have a shower or bath every 2 days and 9/10 times i don't shampoo their hair but just let it get soaked
