switching to duvet from grobag?

Hi,

When did you make the switch from sleeping bags to duvets?
DD is 18 months old and is quite a wriggly sleeper but I thought maybe I could bypass the 18-36 month grobags and go straight for a duvet. Do the grobags delay them trying to climb out of their cots?

Thanks x

neither of my lo's tried to climb out of the cot although dd was in a bed just before she turned 2 - she had a cot duvet from 18 months when she grew out her grobag. DS was in a cot till 2 1/2 and had a grobag up till then.

i only changed when DS announced grobags for babies and he refused to use one anymore aged 2.

yes grobags delay climing out of cot - he climbed out within a week of the duvet so was total waste of money as had to put him in a bed then.

i did find though that the 6-18 grobag was ok until nearly 2, he never used the 18-36 month one (DD fitted in 18-36 one when she was 5!)

If you can stomach the cost, get one of the grobag duvets that zip to the bottom sheet. They are a wonderful transition.

I got rid of the grobag and switched to duvet as DH didn't like DS 'looking like a bridesmaid' when he was 18 months.

However, he was always waking at night because he was cold and learnt how to climb out of his cot so I switched back to the 18-36 month grobag. It took him another 3 months to learn how to climb out of his cot IN his grobag

Then he switched to a bed and it was all over.

I would keep the grobag as long as possible if I were you.

LOL at "looking like a bridesmaid"!!

I don't think she would probably grasp the concept of snuggling under the covers so I guess we'd better stick with sleeping bags. I'm just tight - think I'll look on ebay for some second hand grobags. The grobag duvets look really good but shockingly expensive!

Also, the sides of her cot aren't that high so anything that delays her climbing out has got to be a good thing.

we switched to duvet when DS had spent a few weeks (2yo at this point) in his double bed. We let him lie in the gro-bag until he'd got accustomed to his new bed (on top of the duvet), and then one night tried him without the gro-bag and he got under his duvet and he's been fine ever since. That's nearly a year now he's been in his big bed.
