3 week old and a 20 month old - Advice please

Hi, my lovely dd's are 3 weeks old and 20 months old. My 20mo is very loving towards her baby sister and gives her kisses and cuddles but can be a bit rough sometimes.

My problem is - I can only have dd2 in her pram until dd1 is in bed. If I have dd2 on the floor I am worried dd1 will jump on her etc. So I find I am holding dd2 a lot when she is awake and not feeding which is tricky when dd2 wants attention.

Any advice on what to do. Dd2 really cant be trusted without being held or being ready for a quick hand!

I just feel like dd2 needs more time to have a kick around. She is happy in her pram for a while but soon gets bored and loves being on her playmat.

Thanks

Hiya, my two had the same age gap and I remember I had the same worry at first - that DD would flatten DS when he was on the floor mat. I did put him down on the floor when she was around, but would generally keep an eye on things and be nearby so that I could leap over if necessary, but I tried not to be too jumpy about it all, and it must have worked cos he is still with us. The most helpful thing I found was this massive playpen I bought from ebay (like this one cgi.ebay.co.uk/Large-wooden-playpen-room-divider_W0QQitemZ110497611083QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_B abyBabySafety_ET?hash=item19ba2bbd4b - if the link doesn't work, I searched for "large play pen divider")

Most of the time, it is sat in the corner of the living room with the gate open, and this is where we stash the toys, but sometimes I'd put the baby and his playmat in it, shut the gate and entertain the toddler. She never lobbed anything in on top of him.

Cheers,

Laura

A playpen is a great idea! I will have a look now. Thanks
