Help, not sure what to do with this rash

Hello everyone, my 2yo boy uses real nappies and he has developed a kind of rash that I am not sure how to deal with. It is on the side of the legs and on his testicles . It looks like wee pimples, small red spots usually affecting a small area of about 2cm roundish. I have tried Metanium and Conotrane, but not sure if that is what I should be using. Have to say that didn't use Metanium long enough maybe just 2 applications. Has anyone here seen this type of rash and what did you use? Many thanks.

I'd keep using loads of the metanium and lots of nappy free time. Maybe give the nappies an extra rinse just in case.

Thanks for replying Caen, will be using Metanium tomorrow (he is already in bed) and get loads of nappy free time and see how it goes. I bought a new sensitive skin washing powder and see if that makes any difference too. Hate when this things happen. He keeps always getting some sort of rash, even thought I keep changing him as often as I can (3/4 hours maybe) and as soon as I realise he has got a dirty nap (he doesn't let me know when he has done a poo) so I am not sure what has been causing this. I give extra rinse whenever it is extra dirty but will defo give an extra one on the next washes and see how it goes. Ta

never tried burts bees before, but have to say that metanium doesn't dry his skin so it is usually ok for him. I will change him more often and see how it goes. Do you use fleece wrap instead of the 'traditional' ones (I use motherease ones)? Never used fleece wraps before either, would be willing to try and see if that helps. Sorry about the questions but the fleece wraps don't leak? Thanks for your reply nicm, and i hope he gets better soon too, really don't like when this happen

burts bees is from the health store.

the fleece wraps work well at night and normally his rash has gone by the time he wakens in the morning. if it's really bad i use it during the day too and this with changing more often works!

i normally use me wraps too. the fleece one is use is from bebesnuggles. they're just like pull on pants but work.

wool is good too-but is more work than fleece and i have never tried it during the day. i've only been using it at night for a few weeks. it was recommended by people on this board when ds was leaking at night.

I like Pot of Gold as a cream - smells yummy and all natural. I would also recommend Pumpkin Pants Fleece soakers esp overnight - amazing - totally converted.

Has the rash suddenly appeared? Have you changed washing powder or doing something different?

bluetortoise · 23/02/2010 22:22

sorry, have been slow on catching up. Thanks for your feedback Nicm. Octo, thanks for reccomendation of cream too, sounds great. He keeps getting some sort of rash over and over again, getting so fed up with it. Have changed washing powder but had a feeling it might have been irritating his skin so bought one for sensitive skin (only used once so far, after the rash has appeared). I try to change him often and use a barrier cream at every nappy change so not sure why they keep coming back. Also, still not sure how this fleece wrap work , would you use a normal nappy, then a fleece wrap on top and then a (ME) wrap on top of everything?

If he has got little red spots and the rash is in his skin creases, he may have a fungal infection complicating things. Normal nappy rash spares the creases...you could try canesten from the pharmacist? Or let HV/GP have a look?

moaningminniewhingesagain · 23/02/2010 22:34

YY pimply nappy rash sounds fungal, I treated DD's with canesten from chemist very successfully. I also go for metanium for nasty red/sore nappy rash plus liners.

I think fleece wrap replaces the motherease wrap but I haven't used them myself (I have 2 wool wraps I haven't dared use yet too as I can't believe they won't get very soggy)

nicm · 24/02/2010 00:19

i'm not too sure how they work but they do lol! i use them with his normal nappies and then the wool or fleece instead of his me wrap. the wool is more reliable and cooler too. octothechildherder might be able to explain better-she is very helpful and helped me a lot here recently when i was looking for new nappies.

octothechildherder · 25/02/2010 16:42

The fleece repels the wee - its magic! I was sceptical for about 7 years then eventually after trying loads of different night nappies and covers got myself a fleece cover and was totally amazed. DS3 (now nearly 3) has been a very heavy wetter - if I had listened to the fleece advice earlier I would have bought alot less nappies and would have alot more dry pyjamas, bedding and def more sleep lol

I recommend the Pumpkin pants ones because they have a good range of patterns and sizes and you can get longies which act as good pyjama bottoms - very warm in this chilly weather.

octothechildherder · 25/02/2010 16:43

Thanks nicm

Hey everyone, sorry again for the 'slowness' in catching up. Thank you for all your replies, have to say rash is looking much better now. I was sticking to the metanium, loads of nappy free or pants on (to see if I could catch the accidents and it is much drier now, so thank you all for your helpful advice. VERY tempted to get new fleece wraps, almost converted now
