Hi,

Are there any swiss mums out there, spcially any who come from the raeto romanic area? It is like finding a needle in the hay.... as we are already a minority in Switzerland!

thanks

Have you registered with the Embassy - when you do you get a lot of information about groups in London (ie Swiss Church, which I believe has a mother and baby group). Also do you get Swiss Review swissreview.co.uk. I am assuming you live in UK? I am Swiss by descent, but grew up only speaking English, and now also speak Hochdutsch and French - always been fascinated by Rhaeto Romansch though.

Thank you CofeeCrazedMama!
I do indeed get the swiss review! I still have to register the birth with the swiss embassy which I will do. I find it far thought to go to London as I live in the watford area.

Will have a look at it though...
Raetoromanic is a beautiful language indeed! I do plan to teach my child my mother tongue and english (if i manage that is!) as we are a minority!

There was someone else on here who was/is. I think it was mentioned on Baby Names (although that may have been you!). I remember because it seemed such an uncommon language.

Interested in this thread?

There was someone looking for other raeto romanic mums. I remember posting on the thread, it was a good while ago though.

There are a few Swiss MNetters around from the German or French areas. And MNetters like myself who are British/Canadian and living in Switzerland.

frakkinaround · 16/02/2010 11:09

I have no idea whether this MNer was the one I was thinking of, but she doesn't mention the language by name and it seems too recent - I, like Mme Lindt, remember it being a while ago.

Hi Jaabaar,
that was me on the link I think... not Rumantsch though I'm afraid. Plain old majority Swiss German.

And baby hasn't arrived yet either. So don't know if I qualify?

jaabaar · 25/03/2010 22:00

Hi Meita!!

Of course it qualifies! From which part of Switzerland and in which area of uk u live?

(if I may ask that is..)

Hope all is going well with the pregnancy! Soon you will be holding your bundle of joy!

Hey Jaabaar,

I'm from the Bernese Oberland but lived in Zurich for 10 years before moving to England. Now I'm in London's commuter belt, just outside the M25 (and just 15m above sea level - every move seems to be taking me lower. Started at 1200m - 1050m - 600m - 400m - now 15m. Guess I can't move anymore, or I'll end up in a submarine...). How about you?

Pregnancy is going well, though I say so cautiously, having had an MC previously. Nearly half way there now And how is life with a newborn? (I gather your baby is young as you haven't registered the birth yet - sorry if I'm wrong)

jaabaar · 08/04/2010 17:34

Hi Meita!
Nice to hear from you! Lol hope you dont end up in a submarine. Me too I travelled a bit. I am from Sedrun/Graubuenden, beautiful alps. Then moved to London for 6 years then to Cyprus for 4 years and now finally settled in UK. I live in Watford.

Live with a newborn is VERY nice! I am lucky to have an easy baby (e.g. sleeps at nite etc)!

Our daughter was born on the 27/1/2010! When are you due?
It is always a worrying time, well for me it was a I lost my first baby and becuase I am quite "old" too!

Hope all goes well with you, would be nice to hear from you again!
