Can I take my 5 year old to a mosque for a look around?

DS1 is in primary 1 and has been learning about religion at school. I know he's been on a class outing to the church, and he brought home a picture he had made of a mosque. I suspect that the church outing is unlikely to be balanced by a trip to any other places of worship, mostly because there is nothing else local and we will probably have to travel to find anything else..

I am not religious, but am keen that his education is balanced. I'm also interested myself as I've never been to a mosque.

We have a buddhist temple/retreat nearby that welcomes visitors so will take him there.

But what about mosques? Can you just show up for a look around?

Depends on the mosque. It might be best to phone first, but the bigger mosques may have someone available in the daytime to show you about. Apologies, if this is stating the obvious, but if you are a woman, you'll need to bring a scarf to cover your hair when inside the mosque.

Your very good to want such a good well rounded education for your child, i only know the local mosque to myself which is also the islamic cultural centre and has school tours year round, they are very welcoming, kind and love ppl with an interest. You will have to cover up a bit and take off shoes and cover your hair in certain parts or going in depending how big it is but im sure you knew that. jus give them a rings ask for the womens department most have one
