Disinfecting Bumgenius

Oops, forgot to put a title!

Hi all,

Ds has just had a nasty outbreak of nappy rash - bleeding blisters and all. The cause is almost cetainly teething, but I want to disinfect all my Bumgenius to be sure there aren't any nasties lurking in there which wouldn't help his sore spots.

Any advice? I'm confused about things I've read about bleach/ boiling/ tea tree oil etc. Just want a method that won't break nappies or washing machine!

Definitley don't boil BG - you will wreck them!! Wash at 60 with NO detergent to get rid of any detergent build up. Maybe even do it twice.

I know BG are alreday fleece - lined , but you could get some new fleece liners so taht tehy are really soft next to his sore skin.

Have you just started weaning - could be a reaction to new food - mine got that type of rash from citrus fruits.

Wash at 60degs and maybe add a teaspoon of sanitiser. Would leave out the detergent for a few washes maybe to get rid of any build up. Leave off the paper liners too as they will stick to the rash

Hope gets better soon

Thanks for the tips. What brand of sanitiser would you recommend? I never know what I'm looking at with them as I've never used them

He's just had his first birthday so we're not new to foods, and I can't think of any food he had in particular which brought it on. It was horrible - perfect bottom in the morning, then one poo later and there were blisters everywhere. All clearing up nicely now though, thank goodness .
I use Ecoballs to wash so don't think detergent build-up should be a prob.

Something acidy???

I would recommend BioD, Pure, Lollipop Clean & Fresh - not napisan though.

I would use BioD Nappy Soak, also sold under PHP and Bambino Mio brands. It's fine for BG and will sterilise them.
I actually wouldn't bother myself, I don't think it's anything in the nappies causing the blisters though - when your baby teeths, he dribbles, saliva is alkaline, stomach then produes acid to counteract, this goes through the gut blasting away many of the 'good' bacteria en route and results in nasty bottom buring acidic poo!
