Hello - I have an interview for a PGCE in Primary education next week and I have to take a Maths test whilst I am there and I was wondering whether anyone else had to do this?? I was just wondering which bits we needed to know as it doesnt state on the letter and also what sort of level I'd need to be up to. Any advice would be great. Thank you in advance X

Hi Looba,

I didn't have a test when I did my interview - hopefully someone will be along who has had direct experience. What course are you applying for (e.g., early years or maths specialist)as the interview test will likely vary in depth depending on this?

This is a link to the TDS skills tests that all PGCE students have to pass during their PGCE year- there are some practice tests you can do online. www.tda.gov.uk/skillstests/numeracy/practicematerials.aspx
It's very unlikely they would give you anything as in depth, but this shows the level you need to get to during the year.

Also - a very useful book - "Primary maths audit and test" (Publisher - learning matters), which shows you areas you may need to work on (a lot of unis get you to do this just before you start the course so you can concentrate on your own learning needs

And good luck with the interview! It's a hard year but great fun and SOOOO worth it at the end.

Thank for your advice I've applied for Primary which is aimed at teaching 5-11year olds! But I still don't want to mess it up! I also have to do a presentation on anything at all!! I'm doing tie dyeing - does this sound fun to you haha NERVOUS!!

hi looba i did mine last weds. I applied for age 3-7. i had a written test which they gave us the title for while we were there.
the maths was fairly easy, we had addition subtraction, long multiplication and long division. a question on traingle angles (which i know i got wrong) and basic algebra. there were only 10 questions in total.

my interviewers were lovely, very relaxed and i came out having actually enjoyed it. we had a group interview which involved a presentation which we had to prepare as a group while we were there
