Am I being too hasty buying an ebay bargin when I don't know what nappies to go for?

I am pregnant with my first and I want to go down the real nappy route, but have no idea what style/type or system I am going to go for. However I am getting broody and want to pick up some bargins now before everything starts to get too expensive!

I am only 19 weeks so am I too early and there will ALWAYS be bargins out there!

A wee bit early but hey, if it makes you happy..

Why don't you post details of the "bargains" you've seen and then ask for opinions?

btw if you see any motherease onesize, snap em up!

i have a LOT of cloth nappies i need to sell, CAT me if interested

4andnotout · 29/01/2010 18:26

I would try a few different nappies before opting for a total system, we have a chat thread for clth nappy users we are always willing to help other people spend their cash choose

For a newborn the sort of nappies I'd recommend looking at are :
totsbots flexitots or bamboozles.
Sandy's
motherease airflow wraps

Personally we didn't use pockets for the first few months, now we mainly use itti bitti d'lish, weenotions, totsbots easyfits, and bamboo babybeehinds and fleece soakers for nights.

What sort of system were you thinking of plumping for?

Have a think now about what your setup is in terms of washing and drying (clue: you will need to do about 3x as much washing as you do now regardless of nappies). Are you expecting to use a nursery while child is in nappies?

It's also a good time to find some nappucino events and browse around while calm and unencumbered. You can soon become an expert on pockets etc.

You can still buy nappies once you have the baby, if the first few weeks of stinky overflowing dustbins don't put you off disposables nothing will.

Personally I preferred having one sort of nappy all the same and got 2 dozen of them (motherease), but that was after doing a trial. But some people prefer a nappy for every occasion - that's why people end up with so many!

Plenty of secondhand nappies sell on usednappies.co.uk or here on MN.

Sorry but buying things you don't need will far outweigh the cost of whether anything was a bargain: sad fact of
babies

Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for all the comments. I think I might wait till at least after my parenting classes! My local city council gave me 6 free nappies and I got all excited and started looking on ebay and I just get carried away!

There are some bargains here = she will give you good advice before you buy too.

NappyShedSal · 29/01/2010 19:34

Those are good bargains. I've bought from her before.

GoingRodeoBaby · 29/01/2010 19:43

I used Bambino mio first time round (which were crap, always leaking) and Tots Bots flexitots this time. Flexitots are brilliant, they hardly ever leak and last as long as a disposable. Pricey though so got mine second hand. When I was 15 weeks!!! Whats the harm if its a bargain?

mumface · 29/01/2010 19:49

It's never too early for a bargain, I picked up some tots bots fluffles the day after I found out I was pregnant, and my Phil n Teds double buggy in the sale at 8 weeks gone!

nickytwotimes · 29/01/2010 19:52

I wouldn't rush into it, tbh.

I wasted nearly 200 quid on Bambino Mios which were rubbish. Used them for about a month then went to disposables as I just coupldn't face spending another load of cash in one go.

At least you've got MN now to give you a few idea about that ones actually work and are worth shelling out on.

octothechildherder · 29/01/2010 20:13

I would skip bambino mio altogether too

elk4baby · 29/01/2010 20:28

another vote for flexitots here!
