any tips on getting biro off wood?

just come home to find ds1 has black biro-ed all over his new wooden toy chest. It's lightly varnished-any ideas how to get it off? TIA

The best bet is to rub with warm water and a little saddle soap. This should help to remove and tease off the stain.

Some people report that simply using a pencil rubber too can work wonders at getting up the worst of it not all of the biro ink so give that a try too.

Finally then the classic soap and warm water may work wonders here. Nothing too strong as you don't want to affect adversely the wood or its grain that makes up the table.

Hairspray... Spray it on and rub off with a clean cloth. It gets biro off leather chairs! I would try it on a small patch of the toy chest first though...
