Right! I am going to BURN all my BumGenius...

Even a big bonfire will leave me with a smaller carbon footprint than all the washing I'm doing at the moment. I've strip washed, I've unpoppered, I've double and triple stuffed , I've tried bamboo - but the wee is squeezing out of the sides before the inserts are even fully soaked. Gaaaaaaaah!

I've had to stop using poppered vests because its wicking out onto the vest - could that be the problem??

curlywurlycremeegg · 27/01/2010 14:40

have you tried a microfibre insert on top of the bamboo one to help it asbrob the wee quickly then trickle it down to the bamboo?

Lionstar · 27/01/2010 14:42

You can have mine to burn too, they never worked for me for longer than 1 hour.

I aggree with Curlywurly- microfibre absorbs liquids quicker- bamboo and other natural fibres take longer to absorb liquid, so there's run off. Also, I found mine leak if I over stuff as there are then gaps round the legs which form 'wee corridors!'.

HTH

It could be the poppered vests, Mumgenius, it is the groin of the vests where the leaks start. But I love poppered vests! Nooooooo!

I've been doing it the other way mostly curlywurly, but it seems like regardless of what is stuffed in there, when he sits or when I hold him by his bottom, the wee is squeezing out of there like a sponge. But when I take the nappy off, the back of the inserts is still dry. He's been in pampers for the last 3 days because I was just so sick of changing his clothes at every nappy change.

I might give one a go now with the bamboo on top.

No! Bamboo on the bottom! On the bottom!

Poppered vests are essential with cloth nappys. If you don't use them then shirts or trouser waistbands wick wee from the top of the nappies.

Mumgenius · 27/01/2010 15:00

Lionstar - I've not had that problem at all, maybe thats still to come!

Guimauve - Yes, its around the groin between the legs. Have switched to t-shirts instead of poppered vest and problem was solved immediately. I've the same problem before, its been when she is starting to just grown out of the vest length-wise and I guess they are slightly tighter and more in contact with where the nappy meets the legs. Goodluck, I hope you solve it (or sell your BG to me rather than burning!!)

How old is DC? Could it be that their thighs haven't chubbed up enough yet?

greensnail · 27/01/2010 15:06

How about vest extenders if that is the problem. Like these

Guimauve · 27/01/2010 15:12

DS is just over 9 months, and he hasn't got majorly chubby thighs, but I am careful to try and make sure they are on good and snug so that there is no gaping around his thighs.

If nothing else comes of this and the BGs have to go, it will have been worth it to hear of the existence of vest extenders! Thanks greensnail!
