Motherease one size - am i doing it right?!

Hello,

This is week 2 of us using our resusables and i'd really appreciate any help or advice. I'm not convinced we're doing this right and sooo want it to work for us....

We have a set of preloved Motherease one size, cotton nappies and some motherease wraps. We are lining the nappy with paper liners but when we change our baby (4 months) the nappy is sodden and her skin all clammy. Is this right?

Also when she's done a poo, i peel off the paper and throw that away but then get all in a state trying to wipe the excess off of her skin without getting it onto the nappy itself or the changing mat. The result is normally a right old state!

The nappy and wrap are leaving marks on the top of her legs. Is this a sign i'm fastening it too tightly? If i make them looser, will this not make space for leaks?!!

So sorry for the basic questions.

Anna

Hello

I tend to chuck the liner then use washable wipes to wipe off the rest of the poo. these are better than disp wipes as you just chuck them into your bucket or wet bag with your dirty nappies. I wouldn't worry about getting poo on the nappy. You simply wet the washable wipes with water or a nice spray like northern essence (think Jabula sells it) and can also take them out and about in a small wet bag.

She will fill wetness next to her skin - but you can buy stay dry liners for motherease which will keep her dryer - they are like rectangles of fabric which you place underneath the paper liner. I saw some on ebay the other day and there are lots and lots of other online stockists. Or fleece liners will do the same job.

I would say your cover is on too tight. You should be able to put a finger between the cover and her legs - a visible/obvious gap may suggest they are gaping so do tighten them. With the nappy aswell - make sure there is room but it doesn't gape.

Happy to help

Hi there,
I use the mother ease one size too.
I have the stay dry liners that popper in, I just shake them over the loo and any solids fall out. A piece of fleece or fleece liner would be fine also.
Yo dont need the wraps tight, whilst the nappy gets wet it shouldnt be wet enought to leak. I get a good fit on the nappy, snug but not tight then fit the wrap so i can run my finger round the gaps but with some pressure from th elastic if that makes sense.
I use strips of flannel, they clean up so much better that wet wipes and u can chuck them in the bucket. I get fed up of putting a nappy in the nappy bin the a wet wipe in the outside bin so switched to washables - much better! I just use plain water for wet bum and a bit of baby lotion on a wipe to finish off a poppy bum after taking the most ooff with water. Gets rid of any 'bits' that linger!
