Dc's staying overnight when there are other people staying too

I don't mean this to be a thread about a thread, so please lets leave issues on other threads to oneside. However, reading it did remind me about an issue that I'm not sure about. My dc's stay at my parents often, I'm fortunate in that they love to have them overnight and we enjoy a night out and a lovely sleepover.

However they are a sociable pair and wouldn't think twice before inviting a friend to stay overnight at the same time. I don't feel comfortable about this at all. My parents would have no idea if another adult were to go into my dc's bedrooms.

I'm not sure if I'm being overly protective or not. I also have a step brother who regularly pops over and I have said that I'm not happy about him being on his own with the dc's. My Mum thought this was because he's not very trustworthy and agreed, but other than saying 'he could be a peado' we couldn't say anything. My step father would be insulted I think if we said that and I can't tell if I'm being silly or not.

So - I'm asking how MN'rs feel about this situation. Or even in your own home?

Tbh I would trust my parents' judgment as much as my own. So if I couldn't let them have people stay when my dcs were staying, then I clearly could never invite people to stay in my home either.

After all, some things in life you do have to take on trust. If you have a partner you have to trust him not to abuse your children. And he has to trust you (yes, women abusers do exist). If they stay with your mother, you have to trust her. And by the sounds of it your stepfather.

I would limit my mistrust to people who were complete strangers and people I had some reason to think might be dodgy.
