quick - should I rescue dd1 from self-imposed exile?

5yo dd1 has been appallingly rude to me. I had promised to put nail varnish on her, and she was very excited.

But then when I was washing her hair she was awful - 'Give me the sponge NOW!!!' 'I SAID IT WAS TOO HOT!!!' and finally 'How dare you speak to me like that?!' - At which point I said, 'Right, no nail varnish.'

So she burst into tears and said sorry, so I said if she could be polite till after lunch she could have some. She cried and cried and cried, and went to her bedroom. That was about half an hour ago, and I haven't seen her since.

Do you think I should go and get her, or let her stew till lunchtime? I feel a bit sad for her.

your daughter said those thing to yuou>
or you said some of it
I'm confused

you didn't give her a warning which gave her no chance to correct her behaviour

she said it all.

no warning as such but each time i told her she was being rude. By the time she came out with 'how dare you speak to me like that', I'd had enough.

thanks... I definitely don't think she thought she was being funny. She was cross. Little horror.

pixie has a fab idea

try warnings next time

not sure they particularly car eabout being rude at that age

wish my nearly 4 year old only did that

Aranea · 23/01/2010 11:38

she has just appeared tied up in pink ribbon, very pleased with herself. Think she's forgotten all about it actually!

is she not allowed to be cross...

Aranea · 23/01/2010 11:41

well of course she is allowed to be cross. But it is not OK to speak to people like a brat just because you're cross! she's very articulate and i do expect better really.
