Thank you notes for being invited to a party?

Hi, I've just bought my daughter the vintage ladybird book, "The Party". It is a lovely book and bought back happy memories. I noticed that after the party, the children wrote thank you notes for the birthday child. They said something like.. Dear Anne, thank you for inviting me to your party. I was really nice love from Jane.
I wondered if children still write thank you letters for partys, I think it's a lovely idea. I know they do for birthday presents.
My dd is going to a party soon, and I'm thinking of doing a little thank you note with her. Would it be a nice gesture and good manners, or would the mum think "Oh, she's done that, I'd better do the same". IYKWIM
I want to teach my daughter good manners, but also to appreciate things and show appreciation. What do you think, is it a nice gesture, or something that just isn't the done thing these days?

I think that it is quite enough to make sure that they say thank you for inviting me at the end of the party

Oh, o.k. she does do that anyway. I just thought the little letter would be nice too.

Think it's a bit OTT nowadays but if it is a special friend that would be fine (girls particularly often like writing each other little notes and drawing pictures)

I think if your DD wants to write a thankyou letter, then that's lovely.

the thought of trying to pursuade my boys to write another thankyou letter (which they would probably jsut dash off on the PC) fills me with dread.

I think if it is something your DD is keen to do then go for it, just because it's not the norm to do it doesn't mean you shouldn't. Handwritten by your child= sweet and thoughtful gesture... done by you= maybe a bit unnecessary. IMO- a verbal thankyou for being invited to a party & a written thankyou for presents received if it's your party.

Yes, she loves writing little notes and covering them with stickers.
