I feel as if the decision has been made for me

I just want a bit of sympathy - so please be kind. I work for Cadbury and as many of you will have seen we are about to be taken over by Kraft. My job is likely to be one of the first that goes. I am the wrong side of 40 and now feel as if the decision has been made for me that my dc will not have a brother or sister. There could be a lot of uncertainty over the next few months ...and I feel as if my time is running out

I'm sorry, it's awful to feel your job is about to go; are you likely to get redundancy pay?
I'm assuming it's the financial uncertainty that may stop you having a baby..?

Oh I'm sorry .

Is it the uncertainty or would you need money for IVF or similar?

Dh is being made redundant but we've decided to keep trying for dc2. Maybe not the most sensible decision financially but you've got to think about what you'll regret in 10 years time. I don't think we'll regret another baby if we're lucky enough to have one, no matter what it means in material changes.

Hi - yes the financial uncertainty. I am in the position where I earn more than dh. We would not be able to pay the mortgage and everything else on just dh's salary. Everything seems to have been turned upside down overnight!

Well, another child is expensive. But if you want another, my opinion is that you should go for it. You will probably regret it if you don't. You'll sort something out, somehow. You can move to a rented house. Thinking back to the size of house when I was growing up - we really do expect so much these days in terms of space, amount of stuff, stanard of living etc.

Very sorry about your work btw. I was very sad to hear about cadbury's and have been thinking of the workers ever since.

Agree with PotPourri
If you really want another baby you cannot let money get in the way (unless you already have 3 kids like me )

Is it possible to downsize re your house/mortgage situation?
