with ds1. 8 years old with an attitude and piles of lego. Doesn't listen to me, doesn't tidy up, doesn't do what I've asked until I'm blue in the face. Now, in desperation, I've taken his latest lego creation and put it somewhere and said he will only get it back when:

a. I get a bit of respect,
b. he starts keeping his lego tidy (I'm so peed off, it's all over the f**king house),
c. he starts doing what he's be asked to do (ie tidy up, get ready for bed) the FIRST time I ask and not the fourth or fifth.

I'm just venting, been trying to get ds1 and ds2 upstairs to bed for over 45 minutes and I'm hoarse from shouting at them.

DS2 (6) has a similar attitude with the Wii.

I wish sometimes I could just have peace and quiet and a house that doesn't look like a f**king tip the whole time.

Rant over ........

Sorry you're having a hard time of it.

calmly tell him to go to bed.
get on with what you are doing.
remind him he will get his lego back when he has done what you have told him (that is - going to bed properly NOW and apologising in the morning)

then say night, night and ignore...
