I just read this article from an American magazine, and thought I'd share it with the board. It's appalling parenting IMO, and I'm astounded that they think it's something to boast about!

I'm crap at links, so if it doesn't work, please do a cut/paste! In fact, if the link doesn't work, maybe someone more technically astute can insert a link for me!

"Motherhood did not come naturally to me..."

No shit Sherlock and it still isn't. It isn't often the term hard-nosed bitch can be used but this is a class example.

I worked as a nanny in the US during the early 90s and she is a prime example of the kind of uber-mothers I met while there. And that photo of the nanny kneeling on the carpet while the mother practically walks on top of her could have been taken back then (only I was a lot younger than their nanny.)

I felt sorry for the woman I worked for as she was so "driven" she had no enjoyment in anything at all. And this wasn't NYC but a small town north of Boston.

I agree, sad woman, sad husband and child who manages to be both spoilt and neglected.

I think that some people just can't accept that they maybe aren't cut out to be great at everything. Now I would consider myself to be fairly driven career wise (but 100 hour weeks - four hour sleeps - this does not sound remotely healthy to me) but when you have someone else to care for your child you cannot consider yourself to be the fount of all wisdom!

Agree that the article takes the piss...

Sorry, but imo but she is a clone about 90% of the Mums I met on the Upper East Side although ds and dd did go to a Private school when we lived there - I think I would have been happier mixing with the Mums at the local PS, it wasn't a bashing, I felt it was a honest reflection of what they really are like
