I just read this article from an American magazine, and thought I'd share it with the board. It's appalling parenting IMO, and I'm astounded that they think it's something to boast about!

I'm crap at links, so if it doesn't work, please do a cut/paste! In fact, if the link doesn't work, maybe someone more technically astute can insert a link for me!

I'm American. These 'alpha' monsters are one of the many, many things I do not miss about life there - which is fortnately a thing of my past.

WideWebWitch · 05/07/2005 15:12

I find it too odd....

Lizzylou · 05/07/2005 15:20

Yuk! How awful! I gave up at page 4!

frogs · 05/07/2005 15:23

A couple of sharp slaps required here, I feel.

AnnaInManchester · 05/07/2005 15:23

What is it all about? Whats an alpha tv mum?

bossykate · 05/07/2005 15:25

the article was totally taking the piss out of her, didn't you think?

expatinscotland · 05/07/2005 15:30

They named the kid 'Ryland'. Say no more. I don't miss all those naff, contrived names where you can't tell what the hell gender the kid is, either.

What a couple of tampons.

NDP, thanks for providing the link.

I agree that reading the article is an endurance contest. It paints a sad, sad picture, and these women are flat out crazy.....repulsive indeed. i feel for their kids...... I'm amazed that people think anything about it admirable and yet somehow it's deemed deserving of a high profile article written in a positive tone!

Well, for all their wonder DNA, Isabel is one ugly bag.

bossykate · 05/07/2005 15:32

surely i'm not the only one to have seen the pervasive ironic not to say rather satirical tone? i didn't think the article was positive at all.

Lizzylou · 05/07/2005 15:34

Do Americans DO ironic?
Sorry EIS.........

expatinscotland · 05/07/2005 15:35

No you aren't, kate. But what's hysterical is when someone is so up themselves they can't even tell the difference between flattery and taking the mick..

lunachic · 05/07/2005 15:35

the whole article(not that ive read it all) seems really contrived and ridiculous and at the end of the day isnt saying much at all

lunachic · 05/07/2005 15:36

expatinsct
am going back now to larger pic to see what an ug she is

expatinscotland · 05/07/2005 15:37

I do ironic, Lizzy. That's one of hte reasons I never fit in in America. Aside from a penchant for booze and fags, I am a lazy git who just can't be arsed to give a flying f* about most things. Hence, I was labelled an 'underachiever' and 'slacker' who 'doesn't apply herself to the utmost of her abilities' from an early age. As if I ever gave a toss. Which made things even worse for me b/c no one could understand why I was perfectly happy just dodging along.
