posted the other day about ds2 and the school trip and his allergies.
well, i have let him go, for the first time

i am actually very annoyed as i have been asking to go on this trip with him for weeks and been told we will let you know if theres a place. first thing Yesterday morning was told sorry no place and then today another mother (parent governor)is getting on the coach and tells me she asked yesterday and they said yes.WTF. her kid doesn't even have any problem.

is it all down to how often you post and how much helpful advice you give on here as to how popular you are ?

do lots of you know each other in real life?

lots of people have meet ups and stuff so talk to each other a lot. i dont know anyone and sometimes get replies, sometimes dont. i think most people just post if they think they can be helpful.

i would be v about the other mum, but lots of schools are like that i think. doesnt make it right tho

no i dont think so, although i feel a bit like you on here some times when no one even acnowledges my comments or posts.
Dont take it personally, its not intentional.
I dont know any one but have got to know the nicknames of regular posters.

Very justified annoyance - more so, in fact. Can you write a formal letter to the school?

On lack of responses, I don't think people get answers just because they're "popular", I really hope not anyway - I think answers come out of two things: one, people spotting your headline and thinking oh yes I know something about that (so I would really recommend you saying something like "severely allergic son on school trip today - help me cope"; and two, people having seen your name around and getting to link it with subjects they personally know about.

So - for instance - I clicked on your thread this time because I saw dinosaur had posted on it, and often things she's interested in are things I'm interested in.

I think otherwise I wouldn't really have thought to respond to your headline. God sorry if that all sounds disgusting and patronising.

No, i'm not annoyed but i was just trying to figure it out. It's seems like people already no each other e.g the thread welcoming Bunglie back, i remember her and i'm glad she's back but i'm sure if i disapeared no one would notice. I wondered whether it was because i don't post as much as some or whether people don't connect with me the same.
At ds1 and ds2 school in RL i have a couple of fiends but the rest don't want to talk to me and i have tried. I think i must give off some sort of vibe.

Hope he has been ok. FWIW I do think that the staff should be trusted to cope with this, although I understand that it would be far more reassuring to be there yourself. There shouldn't be a problem as long as the adult who is in charge of his group has been warned to watch closely for any irritation and eye-rubbing, and that the staff have the Piriton to hand if need be. Could he have had a wet flannel wrapped in an icepack in his lunchbox to help sooth any itching (again the adult in charge could certainly help with that)?

As for not being allowed on the trip - there always seems to be problems around this issue. Is it worth asking what the policy/criteria is that they use when allocating places, saying you are a little confused and just want to know for the future as you asked ages ago, but still didn't get a place - what should you do next time?

I really hope he has had a good day. Incidentally, I think responses depend on the time of day of the post, and to a certain extent if your name is recognised, although usually you do get replies and support anyway, even if you have to wait a bit

I'm always amazed at the threads on here where parents aren't allowed on the trips - at our school (which isn't sink btw!) trips are often almost cancelled because they can't get enough parent helpers! They beg us to come along!

I know what people mean about titles - I thought perhaps your child had been on a first school visit today (as have some of my friends' children, and as did my dd1 this time last year) and thought I might be able to offer support.

Anyway, agree with Bee3 on best tactic with the school.

I think school gates are funny places - I find if I'm not feeling brave I don't bother getting into the gaggle and it's easy to be left out. Saying that, for dd's sake I always make a point of saying hello to all parents with children in her year, even (and sometimes especially) the snotty or exclusive ones.

maybe they think it will do you good to let him go alone - the logic being it might give you a bit of confidence if all went well?

He was fine
teacher remembered medicine etc and one of the mums that went made sure he didn't touch any animals for me so all was well!
Think i will go in tomorrow and ask to have my name put on the list for next years trip
