Doctors baffled, so thought trusty mn worth a try. 7 week old baby born 7 weeks early. Had puffy feet mon, wed eve had very swollen, purple labia and mottled legs. Now has clear line just below waist where swelling starts. Had bloods, chest & stomach xray, bowel scan, blood flow scan - all clear. Awaiting urine results. Any thoughts?

It sounds like her lymphatic system has got a bit 'bunged up' around the bit where it joins her lumbar spine.

Do check with the doctors first but if they're happy for you to do it - gently bend her hips (bringing her knees to her chest) and then straighten them again and repeat a few times. Then move each leg up and down and then bend each knee and straighten it etc and then wiggle each foot.

How was her birth?

Thanks mrst. Birth was fine, just very quick, ie 15 mins second stage as heart rate dropping, so wanted her out quickly.

Hi Issy - probably not this as swelling is only on lower body, but my son has something called nephrotic syndrome, which can cause swelling. It's a kidney condition which is quite easily treated. If she's showing protein in her urine it could possibly be this. If you google, make sure you look at NS in children, not adults, as it is a lot more serious in adults!

Thanks 2mad. She did have protein in urine but not on dip tests only in lab - get results from last lab test 2mrw.
