I have a very porky 21 month old DS. He has always been 98th percentile. My dds were also quite strapping but slimmed off by school age so it must be a family thing. However DS hardly thinks of anything but food. He spends much of the day dragging me to the fridge shouting till I give him a snack (yogurt or cheese string for preference). He then tucks into hearty meals and if its his favourite (pasta) will happily eat an adult portion.
Is he hungry? A friend said little boys sometimes need to eat often so maybe I should cut back at meals and go with it. Anyone any experience of this?
Cheers!

My husband affectionately referred to our son as 'tank' so you get the picture! He always loved his food and would regularly eat an adult portion. He is now 3 and has slimmed down and reduced the food he eats, not through me doing anything. I would try not to worry about it as along as he is eating well and getting a balanced diet. If you are not feeding him on high sugar, fatty foods then his weight is likely to be how he is programmed and will sort itself out in due course. The other thing is whether he is an active child. My son wasn't particularly when a baby but once he started being more active at around 2 he slimmed down. If you are still worried about it then contact your health visitor and see what they suggest.
