Any ideas on how to give Antibiotics to a 3 yr old

Just had a right nightmare.

My DS has been given antibiotics by the doctor and got the first lot down okay until he realised that it tasted awful so as you can imagine the second dose didnt go down very well in fact I had to hold him down force it in is mouth and then drop some smarties in straight afterwards!!!

Can anyone give me an ideas on how to get the nasty stuff inside him without causing him and me too much heartache!!!!

and a syringe

Mix it in with milk or juice. Otherwise syringe and bribery.

bribery. and lots of it. with chocolate or something after each dose and the promise of a toy or something when he's finished the lot

the only way I have managed it is in small amount of juice while watching tv (in fruit shoot bottle to disguise foul smell)

Thanks for the advice. What gets me is why do they make it taste so awful!!!!!

Syringe and a firm head lock grip. Works every time. Ds wouldn't be bribed and couldn't be fooled. Things got a lot easier once he reached the grand age of 4 and could be reasoned with (a bit).

I tried with syringe and headlock... so traumatic for both of us. I was convinced she was going to aspirate it.

Feel for you...

another possibility is to ask the pharmacist if they do other flavours? some come a few - or there might be a more palatable one available - you might have to get a new prescription from your doc but it will be worth it?

otherwise, bribery and a syringe are always the way to go - dd had to take antibitiotics for 6 weeks but was spurred on by the prospect of new pink shoes!

I vividly remember as a child being offered the choice of banana or strawberry flavoured mixture for my medicine to go in - fab stuff! Don't know if they do that any more, this would have been 30 years ago...
