Hi, thought I'd start a thread to see if any other MN'ers are doing K204 working with children and families this feb (OU)?

I know awassailingforanswers is doing it, but any others?

thats in my 10 year plan any way lol the BIG goal will take much longer/more hard work to achieve.

hope you two dont end up like me....got to level 3 and no job to apply any of the course work to. you'll need something to get through level 3 so might be worht thinking about it.

although ou say that its not a necessity, when they say it will be tough without work based practice, its true.

milton keynes ou hq is just up the road to me,they keep offering work periodically promoting ou,bbut i'd quite like a 'proper' job up there on campus. i was considering social work type jobs, but all so difficult to get into, degree or not,so thinking more about going back to police work.

that's my 1 1/2yr plan lol.

Hoping if I can get through K204 and pass it, then by the time DS3 starts school in September 2011 will be 1/2 way through my 3rd course - quite like the look of the new E214 actually. So hopefully have enough behind me to be able to get a job in that field, even if not "proper" FSW iykwim.

Then 2012 will do 2 courses, 2013 2 courses as well and then hopefully have my degree..

cordonbleugh · 07/02/2010 00:30

If I haven't got a job by the time I start level 3, then I'll hopefully at least have a voluntary role, either in my local sure start centre, or family centre run by action for children.

Yea, I've heard sponsorship for SW degree is hard to come by.

Tiff - thankfully if I'm not in a job by then (I hope I am ) I have plenty of "contacts" within settings that are linked to many of the courses, ones who I know have let other people in the past go in for days/sessions to "observe" (and talk to staff) .

cordonbleugh · 07/02/2010 00:33

Well......you don't actually have to have a degree to be a FSW. DD's god mother hasn't got any relvant quals. that I know of.

You do need to be able to drive though, to do home visits etc. DD starts school this september so I will have more opportunity to take on voluntary roles, or even a 16 hr p/wk job in a relevant field.

Whats E214?

ToccataAndFudge · 07/02/2010 00:35

E214 new one.

ToccataAndFudge · 07/02/2010 00:36

no true you don't need a degree, but I'm sure it helps if you're wanting to say, you know, manager other FSW's

cordonbleugh · 07/02/2010 00:44

oooh thanks for that link! Looks very interesting, and again, relevant to what we want to do!

Arghhh I may have to change my degree plan to fit that one in now!!

And yes, degree will be essential for a managerial role!

hmmm now wondering which level 3 course to drop for E214!

OP posts:
ToccataAndFudge · 07/02/2010 00:47

does look good doesn't it.

I've deliberately not got my degree plan mapped out as I know there's always a chance of a course being dropped before I take it/a new one appearing that I prefer

cordonbleugh · 07/02/2010 00:47

AND I've just noticed it has no exam, just an ECA which is very rare for a 60 point course!!

ToccataAndFudge · 07/02/2010 00:51

oh I hadn't looked that far - only just spotted it a few minutes ago when you listed the courses you were planning on doing

cordonbleugh · 07/02/2010 01:06

well my list is about to change!! Glad you mentioned the new course though, K303 managing care looks really boring in comparison now!

Looks as though it will only have Feb start dates though. Am hoping to do K203 this October, don't fancy having a huuuge break from June 2011 till Feb 2012! Will have to overlap.

hmm DD will be at school while they overlap, then in the summer holidays, I'll just be doing the one, then be able to get the ECA for E214 done when she's back at school in Sept.

sorry, just rambling to myself trying to figure it all out! (had planned to go to bed at 10pm.........3 hours later lol)

ok, new plan....

K204 - Feb 2010 (working with children and families)
K203 - Oct 2010 ( working for health)
E214 - Feb 2011 ( Equaility, participation and inclusion)
KE312 - Feb 2012 ( Working together for children)
K311 - Feb 2013 ( Promoting public health)

Will still finish Oct 2013, just means overlapping k203 and E214 for 5 months eeek!
