As early as possible dressed as warmly as possible! My youngest was 3. Been out for ages today, fantastic.

Have fun.

stop at 40 I'd say, given the usual injuries
maybe just clumsy

TimothyTigerTuppennyTail · 07/01/2010 21:58

As soon as he/she can sit up properly by themselves (no wobbling or toppling allowed). A bit older if you're going to push downhill rather than pull along.

reminds me of taking dd sledging when she was a toddler. We stopped when she got tired. I was crossing the main road (snowed over) through town when I felt the sledge go light. Turned and looked and there was dd asleep in the middle of the road scooped her up wrapped her in my coat and pulled her home fast asleep.

My mum stil sledges and she will be 80 in a fortnight!

Sassyfrassy · 07/01/2010 22:13

I take both my daughters out on sledges, dd1 is 5, and dd2 is 16months. Dd1 sorts herself out and dd2 gets pulled by me and then pushed down little slopes while I run down the slope beside her =) Tis good fun.

MrsBadger · 07/01/2010 22:13

dd (2.5) is fine being pulled along but only goes downhill accompanied!

Lifeinagoldfishbowl · 07/01/2010 22:17

I use it with the 2 year old instead of a pushchair.

nannynz · 07/01/2010 22:18

My friend has a great photo of her four month old in a sledge. She pulled him all round the back yard and he loved it. He's a snow baby.

BabyG cried after 5 seconds on a sledge, very warm and cosy, held by DS1. He is utter wuss. And was 1 in November

JennyPennyNAPPYWEB · 07/01/2010 22:21

Aww good. DD1 has just turned 2. My Mum has said she has a sledge we can use so hoping to take her out at the weekend if its still snowy.

We went on holiday to Lapland in January when my daughter was 18 months and my nephew was 9 months. The only way to get them from A to B was in a sledge! My daughter is slightly kamikaze in a sledge. She doesn't like it if I go in one with her, and when you send her down a little slope alone she yells 'faster, faster!'

petisa · 07/01/2010 23:01

Awww, nothing useful to add, just wanted to say what a sweet OP, the title made me go "Aww".

As you were.

DuelingFanjo · 07/01/2010 23:03

about 15 - 16 months I recon would be fine.

depends on what you mean by 'use a sledge'

NotAnOtter · 07/01/2010 23:05

17 month old loved it today held by dc5 (3) who was more of a wuss

MamaMimi · 07/01/2010 23:08

When my dd was about 18 months and we got some snow we didn't have a sledge so we pulled her round the garden on a kitchen tray with string through the handle- she loved it.

At that age tho' you have to set off really slowly or they jerk and fall backwards!
