Duvet Tog for 4 and 6 year olds

Having a rather boring issue - please could you help, just quickly?

We have just moved house and the boys bedrooms are freezing cold. Currently they are sleeping in 4 tog duvets, but are having to wear vests, pj's, a double wooly rug and another rug and still they are cold.

So - thought process is to buy new duvets but not sure what tog we are supposed to give them - is there still an issue with overheating etc or can I just do what I think? I was heading for a 10 tog but wondering if perhaps I could even go for a 13 tog.

So sorry - SO boring!

Don't know what you are meant to do but my 4 year old ds has a 10.5 tog and doesn't seem too hot. I don't worry anymore as he throws covers off if he is warm.

both my lo's (3 and 6) have 10.5tog duvets on a single bed. The maximum recommended tog for a single bed is 10/10.5tog whereas the maximum for a cot bed is 4/4.5tog.

My 2yo and 3yo have 10.5 tog on their single beds, too cold with anything less.

why the different togs for different beds?

seona1973 - where is that advice from?

Seona1973 · 06/01/2010 17:50

I got it from the bumpto3 website which says this:

Because the size of the cot bed is smaller it automatically retains more heat when the child is sleeping, however, the larger surface area in a single bed means the child only heats the area he/she is sleeping in, therefore, a higher tog rating is required on the single bed size.

Do not exceed the maximum recommended tog duvet, which is 4 tog for children in cots or cot beds and 10 tog for children in single beds

Bless you all - thank you a million times! you will be pleased to hear I agree with you all and ordered three (ds 3 will need one soonish) 10.5 tog duvets in the John Lewis sale - bargain and confident too! Thank you so much. x
