Children's art

My DS1 (4.3) loves to draw. I am very un-arty so am a bit at sea. Beyond leaving out pencils/paper (I draw the line at felt tips!) how can I encourage him? I am planning to take him to a local art gallery, and always ask him about what he has drawn.

I really want to encourage him with his art, because he seems to find drawing so satisfying, and it helps him wind down after school. I have read that many children get discouraged or lose interest around the age of 7 or 8 and would like to prevent this if I can.

Any tips from artists or parents of older children who have carried on drawing would be most welcome!
