wraps for prefolds?

i have 10 prefolds form my first son. i dont have the wraps anymore. i found them quite leaky.

so i am starting again and need advice on which wraps would be best.

my ds is 24 weeks old. he was weighed 3 weeks ago and was 6.3kg. although he has started and evening spoonfeed since then so might have put on a good bit of weight. will be getting him weighed this week. which wraps are best for stopping leaks? and also will i have to get different sizes for when he gets bigger?

also, i am aware that 10 prefolds will not be enough nappies for every other day washing. i dont want to discard these prefolds but i wondered if there were a better type of nappy that i could also get. i find the prefolds bulky, however the leakage thing is far more important and am happy to put up with bulk if it means the least amount of leakage.

how many nappies in all will i need? i intend on using reusable microfleece liners. would 30 be enough? ds has at least one dirty nappy a day (bf poo).

if anyone could recommend anything that would be great.

Imse Vimse are best with pfs IMO. The organic cotton wrap is so nice, very comfy on the legs and waist, no red marks ever and no leaks. The soft wrap is also great, slick interior so you can wipe it clean, very trim, no leaks ever, and they make it with poppers now. They fit well over most shaped nappies too.

You can get one-size wraps but I don't think it's worth it--there's always a window where none of the sizes fits and then what do you do.

Everyone has their favorite types of nappies, and everyone has a different idea of what the perfect amount is. Here's mine:

18 one-size nappies (will prob fit your DS to potty training)
3 night nappies
4 day wraps (you will have to size up as he grows)
2 night wraps (wool or fleece)
12-18 all-in-ones or pockets for going out/babysitters

Have been out of the UK for a year now so not sure what the best brands are anymore!

I would recommend Motherease Rikkis for daytime and Pumpkin Pants fleece covers for nighttime - or just use the rikkis.

I always recommend twenty nappies in total - if you already have ten would say another 10 would be fine.

Shaped would be a great option as you already have flat - and they will be much better overnight. Would go for a combination of fleece nappies like lollipop micros and softees and cotton or bamboo nappies like flexitot or motherease sandys. Then you have a mix of really absorbent and quick dryers and these can be used overnight.

I wouldn't go for all in ones as extras - seems a great expense when you can send the same nappies to a childminder/nursery.

I would suggest washable wipes and a good wet bag like monkeyfoot - there are lots of different wipes - cotton, bamboo or fleece - just choose the ones you like best!

Paper liners are good for catching poo but fleece liners would be good over your prefolds and cotton/bamboo nappies to keep his skin dry - and you wash them rather than flush them.

You can use a good sanitiser like Bio D or Clean & Fresh to get the nappies smelling nice and fresh.

letsblow are one size nappies all the same size? and can be adjusted to suit the size of the baby?

do pocket nappies come with inserts and will i need to get extra boosters for them? also, are they different sizes?

octo i'm already using fleece wipes. are they the best do you think?

also, how much should i expect to pay for shaped nappies?

One size nappies generally fit from birth to potty - some fit better than others from birth to potty - if they seem big when they are little they are more likely to fit when they are bigger lol.

Pockets do usually come with inserts - weenotions don't always but can't think of any others that don't. Most are one size now - like bumgenius, totsbots, weenotions, coolababy, mama lala, bambooty and others are sized like fuzzi bunz. You could get some extra bamboo boosters for them.

Fleece wipes are fine - but I prefer cotton or bamboo (less smeary )

Shaped nappies vary in price from £5-£10 - there are some good deals on at the moment - Lollipop has sets for £120, NappyWardrobe has starter sets for under £30, BabyBots has coolababy (pocket) nappies for £5.50 - depends what you want really.

For your prefolds, I'd recommend either Proraps - boring white but very robust and very effective, or Bummis wraps - bit more funky, again a good fit.
Both these wraps are designed for prefolds specifically.
Do make sure you secure your prefold on with a Nappi nippa - that way you'll get less leaks from the nappy on to the wrap.

I'd think you could get by with another 6-10 prefolds (try ebay but watch for postage you may be better off buying from a site with low postage)

i bought a few shaped nappies and wraps from ebay, a few different brands that you have recommended and one that was recommended by the nappy lady. i'll see how i get on with this lot.

ariela my prefolds are the type that just folds in thirds, i dont think i can secure them with a nappy nippa, unless there is a different way to fold them? (the middles section is thicker so i dont think there is any other way)

I think the best way to fold a prefold for boys is to lay it flat, fold the bottom up a bit, then fold into thirds and fan the back out flat again so you can wrap it around waist and fasten at the front with a nippa. This gives better containment for poo's with a more padded bit at the front where boys need it.

boo - to use a nippa you need to fold the prefold into 3 with the thickest part in middle i.e. the outer two edges fold into it - then simply fan the end out - you then have a slimmer bit at the front and wider at the back - this can then be used like a shaped nappy and fastened with a nippa - better for containment than just the prefold pad.

I have the whole Bambino Mio set with prefolds, but was given a couple of Bum Genius and find the cloths fit well into that. They are very elasticated and seem to do really well with containment.

Definitely agree with getting a Nappi nippa.
For wraps, Proraps - very robust designed for use with prefolds, and very good value but plain white so perhaps a tad boring, or the Bummis wraps, the Super Brite are nice prints, they're also designed for use with prefolds.

There is one good onesize wrap,. Nature Babes have just brought one out, and it's excellent. Not being a fan of prefolds, I havent tried it with a prefold, but their clasic a=wraps are OK, so I don't see any reason why their onesize wraps shouldn't be. I love all Nature Babes wraps. Very efficient, reasonably priced and lovely prints!
