Ds has had intermittent squits since we came back from hols in mallorca about 3 weeks ago. he isn't particularly ill, more suffering with the loss of sleep when he needs to go loo 3 or 4 times a week in the early hours of the morning and have a waterbottle for an hour to settle his upset tummy. Dr suggests stool sample but cannot begin to imagine how on earth i'm going to 'harvest' this? Any ideas?

next time he needs to go balance a nappy over the toilet and then put him on the toilet (it works best if you wedge nappy under toilet seat with ds on top of toilet seat. when he has finished scrape sample in to tube (they dont need alot) its a bit of a faff but the only way we could work out how to do it when dd was ill

Can you squeeze him onto a potty in middle of the night? Or put a small bucket or a bowl or ice cream tub or something in the loo.
Will probly be ickky but with rubber gloves on anything is cleanable.

You won't like doing this much but I swear it does work - get clingfilm - clingfilm over a pyrex dish small enough to go in the loo but leave a lot left over. Lift toilet seat and put over toilet bowl so there is a big dip (so to all intents and purposes it looks identical to the normal loo) Put seat down to secure. Pour a small amount of water onto cling film.

Let him go. But probably best not to flush - in case it gets sucked away. Fold the clingfilm in on itself. Your sample is now in the middle. But it BACK in the bowl so it's stable. You can now pick up your sample easily without getting pooey hands.

Then throw bowl away wash bowl well.
