Deodorant for a 9 year old?

My 9 year old DS has just started to get a bit whiffy by the end of the day. He is bathed/showered/washed every day, and the BO is a recent occurance. At this age, would you allow him to use a very gentle deodorant, or just wash even more frequently? He seems terribly young to have this issue, but I don't want him to be the 'smelly child'.

DD2 has used deodorant since she was about 7. One day I wondered what the smell was and realised it was her! It's probably not that good for them but neither is the probable teasing for being smelly.

If you are concerned you could research some of the more natural products.

How about one of those crystal deodorant rock things?
I used to use it and it worked very well indeed.

Some of my ds's friends wear deodorant already (he's 10) - I keep sniffing him, but he's still sweet
