what to do with DS?

DS is 4.5 months. He is generally a happy smily little boy... but he is driving me crazy recently.

He won't lie on his playmat without whining. If I put him in his bouncy chair he is trying to sit up... he pulls himself forward but can't make it the whole way up. He is only happy if I am holding him on my lap.
If he isn't with me he just has this kind of low-level whine that goes on and on and on and on!

What can I do to amuse him? He has toys but gets bored very quickly with them and starts whining again!

I have tried him in a sling, but it makes my chores even harder to do!!!

please tell me this is a phase? Right now he is on my lap and is happy and laughing, but I can't sit like this all day! (or can i?)

Try placing a mirror in front of him on the playmat, maybe propped on some pillows on his front, surrounded by pillows sitting in front of a mirror. It is a really awful age where they are 'neither here nor there'. I used a rocky/bouncy chair in the kitchen when doing dishes etc just so she was closed.

put some music on and sing to him while you are pottering around. It is his age - he's aware of his surroundings and want's his mama. I think play with him as much as you want but also it is important to let him amuse himself for some of the time or he will become a limpet and you won't ever be able to put him down.

yeah,,... i do spend quite a lot of time playing with him, because i'd hate for him to be sat there being bored!
might try the mirror idea. he gets so cross in his bouncy chair though, because it lies him back slightly and he wants to be totally upright!

a lovely, lovely mnetter is sending me a bumbo though... so perhaps that will help

What about a door bouncer ?? I know you couldn't leave him in it and go off and do things but say if you were doing stuff in the kitchen he could be bouncing away in the door ?

with DD (same age as you know !) I move her round from playmat/ play nest/ bumbo and would do the door bouncer but find it tricky getting her in it on my own but people seem to manage so you may be ok !

its a phase! Honest!! Give him cuddles when you can. Why feel guilty. Babies get bored but as they grow so does their attention span. put on some music or ...dare I suggest it..the tv all the lovely bright colours changing all the time are really quite fasinating and will give you a bit of time to do what you need to do

Get a large multipack bag of crisps eat them all and then attach the bag to the footplate of bouncy chair or car seat and as DS kicks it rustles

Attach with clothes pegs.

ooh some good suggestions. I do have a door bouncer, but had forgotten about it... will dig that out!

does the crisp packet idea include twigletts, quavers, hulahoops and wotsits as well...reckon i'll give that a go...

DEFFO it is the noise they love so whatever is Mummy's fav treat that is what can be used

And of course it has to be a huge multipack

And it has to be empty

DD/DS are too young to eat them so Mummy has to doesn't she

DS went through a phase of being a bit whingey on his mat. As awful as it sounds I didn't rush to him, I would 'let' him whinge for short periods. I knew nothing was wrong. TBH I'm so glad I did, my friend who completely pandered to her baby still has her running circles around him, completely ragged. He requires attention 24/7. DS is a very contented baby and now enjoys his floor time. He started crawling nice and early (well maybe not that nice!!) and I attribute that to have lots of floor play time.

my ds4 has started to cry when I leave the room or walk past the door and he see's me!! I just call I'm still here and carry on! The cutest thing (I am very cruel) is when ds3 cries ds4 crumoles his little face looks so sad and he cries like the world has ended!! As soon as DS4 stops so does ds3!!

yes, i have to say i do let him whine for a while until i can't stand it any more LOL!!!

hmm, DP is at tesco right now so shall text him and tell him to bring me monster multi-packs of crisps
