What sling should I buy? Please help.

I have a chronic shoulder ache which comes on if I carry things on one side. So I need a sling that I can carry on both shoulders. I also want to be able to carry a new born in a sleeping position in it. Is there such a thing?

I saw the Papoozle on Baby Show, looked ok. Has anyone tried it?

I had a Close sling for DD3 and I loved it - she snuggled up in it for ages when she was tiny. I have to admit, I didn;t really get the hang of feeding in it (which was one of the reasons I bought it) but it was invaluable to give me my hands free to deal with the 2 older DDs.

I haven't found it so good since she turned to face out from me in it - it seems like she needed the material spread out over her bottom to keep her from sliding to one side, IYSWIM.

I have a close baby carrier too for my 6 week old ds. It is wonderful- he loves it as he likes being upright sleeping (lots of the them do). It sends him straight to sleep and I have two hands for making and eating my lunch

I have a Moby wrap sling for my newborn and the different positions are great. Even managed to bf whilst shopping in Sainsbos yesterday! It goes over both shoulders and holds the baby very snug so there is no back strain. The only downside to it (as with all wrap slings) is the vast amount of material and the length - it's not easy to put on in a car park for example. However I tend to put it on before going out and just wear it pretty much all day, baby in and out.

moby wrap - great for sleeping newborns and no back/shoulderache at all

I used a rucksack as a change bag, and didn't bother with a handbag. So, baby on front, ruckie on back - looked like the Michelin man!

The Moby wrap is good for newborns, although it's elasticity means it's not appropriate for older babies. It depends on how long you want to wear your baby!

If you want to go for something more long lasting, i'd suggest Didymos, or Hoppediz. Didymos is the more expensive of the two, but it is a little easier to tie as it's not as thick. Both have great ratings.

Moby sling, used it form newborn and still gong strong with my 10m DS. I love it, so comfortable and I have chronic back pain with an old herniated disc.

Depends what you're going to use it for. For walking around with sleeping newborn, wraps are great. With a stretchy wrap, you can pop the baby in and out without undoing the wrap. My understanding is that with a woven wrap such as didymos, you need to wrap the fabric round the baby, so can't pop the baby in and out so easily as for example with an ergo type.

The ergo suits me because I tend to need to put DS in and out quite quickly (eg. airports), but if you want to go walking for example, this aspect wouldn't matter so much

Wow, thank you everyone. This is very helpful. I would much rather go on recommendations than what looks like it may do. So far Moby wrap seems to be the favorite.

Another vote for a Moby here! But as someone else says, it depends on how long you want to wear your baby for. I caught the babywearing bug, but it wasn't long before DD was too heavy for the Moby. It's still usable, but really starts to sag after a while and you end up with the baby too low and that does hurt your back!

We've graduated to a woven wrap, which is much more secure and stays nice and high.

Um, they seem to be out of fashion here but I really loved my baby bjorn (active) sling and had my dd in it all the time - she loved it.
