Baby's screeching driving me insane

I have an absolutely gorgeous little girl, who just turned one. Over the past two-three weeks, however, she's developed a high-pitched screech, which she makes literally the whole day long. I am slowly but surely being driven mad and have no idea how to stop a baby that age making such a noise.
Advice, please???

Our DD has also just turned one and has become fond of the 'high pitched screech' too - the one that feels as if its melting your ear drum. She mainly does it when she is frustrated and can't get her own way so I find distraction works best but unfortunately not all the time. I am hoping it is 'just a phase' like everything else and she will start doing something different soon. Sorry, not much help but just wanted to let you know you are not the only one dealing with this.

I have a nearly 11 month old who has just stopped doing this (for the time being!!)
What helped for me was quietly, slowly, calmly counting to 10 whilst continuing what i was doing.I spoke to ds inbetween, calmly etc - oh you have finished with your drink - - 1,2,3 etc stopped counting when he stopped screaming don't kno why but it stopped ds screaming and helped me to calm down too. never in my life have used the count to 10 thing before but worked for us!

Ha, mine did that for a while, I said, "dd, mmmmmmmm" and hummed instead (or "babababa"), after a while of repeating that worked!

i think the lack of reaction is the main thing reading what you've all written. That and time; after all no child can keep screaming until they're old enough to go to uni.
