Sleeping bags and PJs

Hi there - soon to be first time mum here, needing noob advice!

What would you dress a baby in to go to sleep at night? If you would use PJs, what would the baby wear underneath (if anything other than a diaper). Obviously you'd have blankets then on top.

If you would use a sleeping bag, again, what would the baby wear underneath? No blankets on top, I take it.

If you buy a sleeping bag then it will probably come with instructions on what the baby should wear underneath depending on the room temperature.
