Repetitive boredom injury in SAHM

FlyMeToDunoon · 06/10/2009 19:08

I think I have damaged myself with extreme boredom activities i.e. housework, juice making and pointless cooking of food they won't eat.
Is there anything anyone can do to kiss it better mummy?

I've had a day like this too. 90% boredom and 10% extreme stress. That's mothering for you!

Acinonyx · 06/10/2009 19:15

Oh I definitley had this affliction when dd was a baby. I especially recall with horror the ''pointless cooking of food they won't eat''. Used to drive me demented. Still does - I just don't try as hard so I suffer so much less.

I find wine is quite therapeutic.

whensmydayoff · 06/10/2009 19:21

Im a SAHM too. I can't stand being in the house though, Id go mad!!
Make a point of going somewhere every morning. Swimming Lessons. Rhymn Time (all big library's do them).
My week...
Monday - Toy box at the library - basically they play with toys and get to take one home for the week and I chat a lot to other mums

Tuesday - Put DS in Council Gym creche and go swimming

Wednesday - Rhymne Time then sit around in toy corner with mums after

Thursday - Free day - send out texts to mums I know in area to see if they are free or visit Gran.

Friday - swimming lesson.

If I didn't do all of the above id be in a straight jacket by now. There's only so much finger painting and pointless cooking we can do before the twitching starts !

Write a list of things you do for yourself

If it is tiny you need to put some effort into thinking how you canmake it bigger

nickytwotimes · 06/10/2009 19:23

Oh, aye, get out somewhere every day.
We usually visit people or go for a coffee (juice, of course) or to the library so it is not so expensive.

It is tedious though.
I feel your pain.

PrettyCandles · 06/10/2009 19:26

Oh a brilliant title! So true .

It's no doubt also why I'm so f*ing FAT.

I wish I was houseproud. Being a SAHM would be less boring then.

FlyMeToDunoon · 06/10/2009 19:31

I wish I was houseproud too! However I suspect this might make me more boring
The thing is that after your morning activity and then lunch there is a very looooong afternoon ahead until school run time.
Not that I do activities as I can't afford them or I find them very boring.

At least you are not a bored WOHM, surely thT is so much worse? I would have loved to be a sahm!

mazzystartled · 06/10/2009 19:43

share the horrorjoy
i find parenting in company way less miserable
ditch 90% of the neurotic and entirely futile housework
get out more

Othersideofthechannel · 06/10/2009 19:45

A project of some sort?

Our garden had nothing but grass in it so I made a shrubbery from scratch during DDs nap while DS played in the mud beside me.

FlyMeToDunoon · 06/10/2009 19:49

Er well i have already ditched 90% of the housework. Should I ditch 90% of the 10% left?

Good point Podrick.
I am frequently bored then remind myself of how soul destroying boredom at work was.
Mind you, I did have a shit job.

Key is to get out and about, definitely.

Jusy keep the house above dysentry level.

FlyMeToDunoon · 06/10/2009 19:53

I thank my lucky stars that I don't have to do a boring job and then come home to the boring housework.
Still going to have a good old moan though

nickytwotimes · 06/10/2009 19:54

Moan away, m'dear. Moan away.

FlyMeToDunoon · 06/10/2009 19:56
